I was browsing around the classes on peoplesoft and was wondering if it is hard to get into classes that are closed. what is the procedure? Do I just go to the first class meeting?

If you really want to get into a closed class, you should email the prof. Say that you're really interested in the class and would love to take it if any spaces open up. I wouldn't just show up to the first meeting of a full class without first talking to the prof about it.

Well, regardless, attending the first class is always a good sign of interest. For instance, many still wanted in after ARTS100 was closed and the first meeting was huge, and I think some got lucky because others didn't show up. For some classes, profs will take note of those who come to first meetings. Again, not every who signs up ends up taking the class. Some switch after a week or two.

I have an acquaintance at Oberlin, where some classes are even harder to get into. He stuck with the class for weeks, and faithfully turned in assignments until the prof finally gave him a place...

But yeah, as jeke said, email the prof, and see what happens. But then, the outcome shouldn't stop you from attending the first few classes. You may even find out you don't really want the class in the end.

thanks guys... i'll probably email the professor.
