Are they roughly the same? Would doing some practice PSAT tests help in for the SAT in anyway?

I think most folks would say the SAT is a little harder (it is longer after all), and some would certainly say the questions are harder. I personally don’t think there a huge difference between the two. But, doing PSAT practice tests to practice for the SAT is fine, especially when you’ve exhausted all of the questions in the College Board book. Good luck.

Exactly the same

The psat does not include concepts from algebra II. Also, I think the longer length of the SAT makes a difference for most people.

I took the PSAT today and talked to some fellow juniors who have already taken the SAT and they said that the questions on the SAT were harder.

Just for the record- Got a 144 on my PSAT Junior year, and then a 1860 on my first SAT Junior year. I only studied like a few days before the SAT.

Personally, I don’t think they’re very indicative of your actual score, and definitely not of your potential.

I averaged aroun a 216 on my PSAT’s and 2160 on my SAT’s (practice tests)----exact indicators for me.

CR - sentence completion is harder on SAT
Math - no Alg 2, harder on SAT
W - same i THINK

To the ppl that think it’s different - ur just noticing the disparities between the questions. No Test is gonna feel like exactly the same difficulty (even when comparing 2 SATs) but the curve overcomes this difference - making it overall the same

“CR - sentence completion is harder on SAT”

Wednesday’s test belied this.

The SAT has an actual essay, which annoys me because I hate writing canned responses to pointless prompts.

The SAT starts with a 25 minute essay then has 3 sections of CR, 3 sections of M and 2 sections of W (grammar) and is almost 4 hours long. The PSAT does not have a written essay but a 30 minute section of grammar and 2 sections of CR and M and is just over 2 hours long. The length of the SAT makes it harder for most people.

The difficulty of the PSAT is comparatively less than that of the SAT only in the Math section, or so I’ve heard. Obviously there’s less time and no essay, so I guess you could say those also make the PSAT easier. But the ridiculously steep PSAT curve more than makes up for all of this IMO.

I actually feel like the PSAT is much harder.

You can’t really compare the two because there are just too many variables to consider… the varying lengths, the extra essay, the harsher curve, etc.

For the SAT, one must master the completely superficial art of writing 25 minute essays, which is not required for the PSAT. Do remember that both tests are created by the College Board, so they are bound to be similar in innumerable ways. But, everyone is pretty much right in saying that the extended length of the SAT makes it harder.

I dropped 10(0) points from my first PSAT to my first SAT practice test (both w/o studying). I’d say SAT is slightly harder but PSAT has a mad curve. You miss 1 proble in writing, you are 76, 1 in math, 75 (It think that’s how it is).
