I transferred into UVA for my second year and I am planning on living on-campus. I'm probably going to have to live at Gooch or Dillard. I did a search and everybody basically recommended taking a plan with the most plus dollars. So I am probably going to do that. But would anybody recommend not having a dining plan? Would I regret making that choice?

If you don't have a car, you will probably need a dining plan. Even if you have a car, sometimes you don't have time to drive off grounds.

You might want to consider the Semester 50 plan rather than the Plus 10, because you can always add more Plus Dollars to your account and avoid the 9% sales tax.

Assuming the small possibility that you find that you actually like the food, you can always upgrade your plan.

There is the Corner plan which you can find at http://www.ocdn.com. I don't see what that plan does for you since there aren't any discounts to speak of that you can't find elsewhere. Better to use a debit card. Besides, the Corner is a pretty good hike from Gooch.

I'm doing the 100/semester, maybe the 75/semester. Since i'm at the e-school, ohill is right next to it so it would be easy to grab something to go. But I agree with MechWahoo: it's good to have a dining plan on-grounds, and you can always add more Plus dollars. You can always change in the first week or so of school too, so if you do get the Plus 10, and eat only 4 of the meals the first week, you might realize you want to decrease the plan.

The food is totally not that bad. We have it good compared to some other places. But yea, the variety sometimes sucks.
