Is the unlimited meal plan truly unlimited?
Or is it restricted to one breakfast, lunch, and dinner per day?
Are certain items extra (eg specific types of drinks)?
Any other restrictions I should know about?
Is the unlimited plan too much? what works for you?

The unlimited plan is truly unlimited… you can visit the dining hall as often as you please and you can eat as much as you can The BU Dining halls are all you can eat. So once you swipe in you can eat whatever. You don’t pay per item you want to buy like Boston College and some other schools.

Certain things do not cost extra. Once you swipe in everything is free basically.

14 plus = you get 14 meals per week to swipe in with. This basically means 2 meals per day (so basically lunch and dinner every day)
9 plus = 9 meals per week
With these plans the meals do not recycle from week to week. So if you have say 2 meals and the week is about to end you will lose them.
These dining plans have the least dining points (which can be used at the GSU (food court), einstein’s, cafe 575, etc… [Where to use BU Housing Boston University](http://www.bu.edu/housing/dining/where-to-use/)

The 330 and 250 plans are 330 plans per year and 250 plans per year.
You get more dining points and also the meals carry over from week to week as well as semester to semester.
I use the 330 plan and I really like it. That way I don’t have to think about how many meals I have per week and I have more dining point. (The GSU has realllly good food). I basically eat 2 meals per day. I don’t really eat breakfast (but sometimes I’ll take fruit/ cereals from the dining halls and save it for the morning to eat)

Buy tupperware!
if it is microwaveable you can heat things up or boil water
you can take things from the dining hall and put it in your bag to save for later

If you have the 330 plan and switch to the 250 plan (after a little more than a month) there is a glitch when recalculating the meals/points and you will get A LOT of dining points…

I believe you have up to 7 weeks to change your meal plan so it’s nothing to really stress about.

xhomefryy, for the 250 and 330 meals, do they carry over from year to year as well, for example freshman to sophomore?
and you’re really allowed to take food from the dining hall for later?
last question, are the dining halls closed during certain times, for example holidays?
thx before…

They carry over from the Fall to the Spring, but NOT from year to year over the summer. If you have points left at the end of the Spring semester, you lose them.

You’re officially allowed to take one piece of fruit away with you. However, people sneak food out of the dining halls all the time. Most of them don’t even try to hide it. Fruit, sandwiches, cookies, coffee, ice cream, ziploc bags with cereal even tupperware with salads or whole meals… anything goes.

Dining halls close when the dorms close. That means Thanksgiving, winter holidays and spring break.

You are technically to allowed to take food out of the dining hall with the exception of one piece of fruit. However, a lot of people do as Hanita mentioned. There isn’t anyone that makes sure that no one is bringing out more than they should. The only people by the doors are the cashiers who swipe students into the dining hall, but they are also students themselves and honestly couldn’t care less.

In fact, people walk out of the dining hall with full plates of food. Some of the adult dining hall staff can be strict however. I have seen some people get caught, but they were just told not to do it again and then food was taken back lol. But this hardly ever ever ever happens.

If you want to take food from the dining hall to your room just get tupperware or ziploc bags and put it in your book bag. But definitely take it back to a table, don’t do it in front of all the staff serving the food.

I eat about twice a day, and 330 was the best meal plan for me. While 14 guarantees 2 meals a day which is more than enough for the average student, you lose out a lot on breaks because it still counts. Also you get less dining points with 14, and trust me you will get hungry after 9pm.

Yeah, I’m on the 330 plan and I think that’s honestly the best plan. But like I said, you can change your dining plan … I think you have up to 7 weeks each semester to change. Dining plans are nothing to stress about at all

I know this thread is old…but can any current students tell me if getting food out of the dining hall is as easy as it sounds? Because it’s seriously tempting to bring some tupperware…

It really is that easy. I’ve seen people literally walk out with plates of food, not even bothering to hide it (though I don’t actually reccomend this). No one will ever stop you from bringing out a few pieces of food, and if you want to bring a whole meal, you’ll literally never get caught if you just put it in tupperware at your table and put it in a bag.

Do it! Hell I took plates and cups from the Dining Hall for my room haha. At the end of the year they put boxes in front of the dining hall asking students to return any borrowed silverware haha.

Also…Don’t take too many cups. It’s a pain in the ass towards the end of the semester when everyone took cups and they don’t have enough for people to use when they’re actually in dining. You end up checking each soda machine for cups, but end up drinking out of a coffee mug anyway
