What are Direct Hit's Contents? Does it have only words and definitions from SATs? Does is have Greek and Latin roots to study? If not, which books can I study the roots from?

Direct Hits contains words that are common on the SAT, as well as sentences from popular culture and history that help to better illustrate the use of the word.

There is one section that sort of incorporates roots, but only to demonstrate that some words are derived from roots. There is no comprehensive list of them.

Direct Hits is a great tool for getting down the core vocabulary for the SAT. It will really help you improve your score. Honestly, as useful as memorizing roots can also be, memorizing the words from Direct Hits would be a better bet. I’ve seen them show up numerous times.

so do they update the books as well? how often?

They have a new 2010 edition out; you can find almost all of the words on quizlet.com

Okay thanks I’m probably going to buy the books. But the website looks very helpful for other things! Thanks!

do you know if a new edition is going to be out soon? i don’t want to purchase it to only have a new version come out the next week…

i think there is a 2011 one coming out- not so sure.

girlrockingguna: quizlet IS really a nice website. I’ve been trying to find a website where I could create my own flashcards. This is a very good one. Thank you!

haha no problem luv2sk8

I’ll wait for the 2011 Direct Hits. Do you have any idea when it is coming out? I want to study a lot of vocab over the summer this year. I want good books!

I’m going to take a wild guess and say 2011. As in, after this summer. ;)

@Light

but then they are going to be coming out with a 2012 versian next summer…

According to Amazon.com, the 2010 version came out in August 2009. So I guess the 2011 edition will come out in Aug 2010. Or at least sometime this summer hopefully.

This is like a year old thread but for anybody that comes across it:
I have all ~400 words of the two volumes of direct hits. PM if you’d like em!

Don’t waste your time with roots.
