Direct Hits

Though I may still seem skeptical, it seems that everyone has been recommending Direct Hits. Silverturtle recommends the 2010 Volune 1 and 2 edition but I infer that this was because his guide was made in 2010. So my question is, which year of Direct Hits should I get? And is it in my interest to buy past editions?

Just get the newest one. Its updated and has a few extra words that have been found on the recent SATs.

i’d wait. The original author of Direct Hits ( he doesn’t do it any more) is coming out with a new vocab book in the next week or so ( at least that’s what someone told me)

Well considering the DH authors supposedly checked over 60 tests or so to find the most common vocab, it shouldn’t change that much, but I guess you’re better off with the newest edition because it probably uses the most up-dated and relevant connections for the word to help you retain them.

I was one of Mr. Krieger’s students (Mr. Krieger was the author of the old Direct Hits book). We used advanced copies of his new book in class and the book helped me know ALL THE VOCAB from the PSAT and the SAT. The book is sooooo helpful and I just found out I scored a 2400 on the March SAT. You should DEFINITELY buy his book…it was the most helpful tool for the SAT.

^are you sponsored by Direct Hits, because that seemed way too charlatan for your own good.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think that a vocab book is necessary. I didn’t use a vocab book and got an 800 on the March CR section, so I guess it depends on how you feel your vocabulary is. It’s not a necessity by any means, and if you feel your time would be better spent reviewing math concepts or grammar rules, I would definitely do that in lieu of rote memorization of vocabulary words.

giants may be sponsered by kreigers new book (just came out 2 days ago according to amazon, dunno how he used it lol).
Evanh, for some people vocab doesn’t come off that easy; I’m a non-native english speaker so I only get like 60-80% of the vocab per test, in the math section I can usually get 0 mistakes and in writing like 3-5, so for people like me a vocab book is essential cuz even though I read every day it isn’t enough to build my vocab within a few months :
Any way, there are many free resources for vocab so perhaps DH shouldn’t be the number 1 choice, but many people do seem to recommend it.
