Director's Waitlist

Hi Everyone!

So, I have a good friend who applied to Smith and was put on the waitlist. However, our school's college counselors have been in touch with the admission's office (our school has a long history and fantastic relationship with head of admissions, Deb Shaver, so it is not uncommon to be in touch with her) and she's been told she is high on the "director's waitlist" . Seemingly different then the regular waitlist? Does anyone know exactly what this means? Anyone been told the same thing? Anyone been accepted off of the director's waitlist? Just was curious and this and figured this would be the perfect place to go with all my Smith-related questions :)

Thanks in advance!

sdangelo, sorry—never heard of the “director’s waitlist.” Regardless of your school’s connection with the admissions director, your friend should do all the regular things to impress upon Smith how much she wants to go there: write a letter stating how much she wants to attend Smith and why, send an additional recommendation from a teacher and/or someone else, additional information about ECs, and additional information about her grades. I may be forgetting something, but if I am, I’m sure someone will chime in.
