Disadvantage coming from a relatively unknown, International School?

As a HS student, do you think the chances are lower if you apply from a high school that's not really well known? Also, do you think standardized tests become more important in this situation?

In my city/province, I'd say there are a few schools that the elite US universities are familiar with. I doubt mine is one of them. It's a great place though, caring teachers and much more flexibility with regards to courses. (For instance, I'm getting credit for independent work in mathematics since I finished BC calc).

I go to a school where a few kids apply yearly but these are usually kids who've focused solely on grades (most important for Uni admission here) and sometimes the standardized tests. (Not trying to judge my fellow students-- the only reason I know is because I moved from a town in the States that had a lot of CC-types)

Any thoughts are very much welcome!

You might get better advice if you post here: [Canada - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/canada/)

The general rule is that if you apply to a college or university in the US, the admissions officer responsible for Canada (or your part of Canada if there are lots of Canadian applicants) will read your application. That person will have enough expertise to understand the general context in which you’ve received your education. If your school regularly sends students to the US, the staff member responsible for helping students apply to colleges here will know how to complete the paperwork at that end which includes a high school profile.

Thanks for the response. I didn’t post there since it doesn’t seem like anyone from recent HS classes posts there.

I don’t know who’s exactly responsible with for it in our school, though I know who will be take charge of my app. We have many apply but I don’t think anyone gets admitted (hence my comment on GPA/test score focus). I was just curious about the experience of other Canadian students. I don’t live in Ontario, where most students come from, so I have little to compare with.
