DISASTER SAT? Welcome to the CLUB!

^haha, agree~
many people in my school would dream for an 1800 or 19
sheesh ~

thank you! I've been wondering about that. How is a 1900 a disaster? This is what CC can do to people...and yet we're still addicted lol.

Those 1800's and 1900's are rediculous..they keep you out from scholarships and honors colleges by only a few points, even if EVERYthing else is seemingly "perfect"!

low SATs really are not the end of world.

I was reading these discussions because i was feeling nostalgic about the whole college application process and i wasnt planning on going through the trouble of logging in but someones comment about Stanford "automatically" cutting their pool of applicants due to GPA or SAT is so wrong I just felt like I had to correct it.

in all seriousness, my dad has served on the admissions board at Stanford University before, and is still a professor there. And they do NOT automatically cut out anybody's application. Every applicants folder is really in all honesty, opened and read (though sometimes quickly).

I got a 1510 which was not what I was planning on when I walked in to take the test. I had a decent CR and a very poor M.

I am getting tutoring and studying my butt just to get a decent score rather than the poor one. I have a 3.7ish GPA and some but not a lot of ECs. I already have college classes under my belt so I am hoping that will stand out a lot.

How many people have gotten very low SAT scores and were able to pull them up into a decent range?

I did. Crash sessions though, like 10 in a week. They went up 100 pts though.

not sure about SAT, For ACT, my score went from a 21 composite to a 30 composite(31 superscore). 19 reading to 32 reading and 25 math to 34 math, and 21 science to 31 science.

Well, I don't know whether you think 1880 is very low... that's what i got the first time it's mainly my math that did that. I'm debilitated in every aspect of math. I suck at it. But, I studied for like a month and retook it in December, and I brought my score up to 2010... which, really, I'm happy with. I got like a prep-book. It helped, mainly because of the practice tests. I'd never taken psat's....

Zero, you really got in with that score? I got a score a bit higher than that... I'm starting to feel hopeful; what was your GPA?

I think anything over 1700 is considered advanced.

I got a 1690 and that was really all luck I think. For the math section, I started panicing when time was running out and my stomach started grawling really bad so I stopped. So I ended up skipping like 10-15 bubbles.

Turns out I scored higher on Math by A LOT...Thanks to skipping questions. :)

saw some girl on this site with 1890 accepted into harvard
friend got 2050 got into harvard
friend with 1500 got into carnegie mellon
clearly SAT isn't everything.
if you score low, you just stand out in a negative way, but that by no means indicate an automatic rejection. you just need something unique that will destroy your score and win the admins into your favor
same thing with GPA also.

i have an 1140/1800 with a like 3.16...it's killing me, not only my SATs not great my GPA is like, horrible. not that i don't have a reasonable explanation for that, but still.

Bah, 1870 SAT and 25 ACT... And I'm 8 in my class with a 4.22 GPA. My top school is UVA. :/

I'm considered to be within the top tier of intellectuals at my school..so when I got a 1520 on my PSAT I felt severely inadequate. I was able to pull it up to a 1780 SAT and get into the college of my dreams, but I still haven't revealed my score to any of my peers.

I got a 201 on the PSATs, so I was disappointed at first with my 1840 or so that I got on the SATs. I didn't take classes or do much preparation at all, really, though, so I probably got what I deserved. Could I have gotten a 2000+? Probably, I'm very good at taking tests. There's no point in dwelling though - either work as best you can with what you've got, or go take it again!

it's mildly ridiculous when some people think that anything higher than an 1800 is horrible. I mean, yeah, I just got an 1800 and part of me was freaking EXCITED. The first time I took with no studying prior I got a 1640. I was legitimately freaking out. But I studied a bit, and ended up with an 1800. Yeah, it's not Ivy material, but it's college material. And a student is not just what their scores are. If you got a like 1800 and up, be happy, some people can only wish for a score like that.

I think you meant anything lower, but I agree with you there. People should not be berated for getting a <2000 score. It's very misleading and very unnecessary.

Nope, he meant that anybody calling a score higher than 1800 horrible is crazy.

oh I see. My bad. Wait, you sure about that?

I heard from a very knowledgeable source that if a person gets at least a 650M 650CR 650W, there's NO school that isn't potentially attainable. Of course a kid with a 2300 probably has a better chance than the kid with a 1950, but it is indeed possible.

So, anyone above a 1950 has absolutely no excuse to complain.
