Discrepancy between ACT and SAT scores

Hi!
So my highest official SAT score is a 1760 (january sophomore year), but on practice SAT's and PSAT's my highest is an 1860. I am a junior now, and I'd really like to bring it above 2000.
My highest practice ACT composite is around a 31, however, which translates to a 2020-2070 according to wikipedia.
Highest Scores on each section:
Reading:34
English:32
Math:27
Science:31
Hopefully i'll be able to bring math up (a lot of the topics were stuff from geometry and precal that i couldn't remember )
My SAT score really bums me out, but with such a high ACT, i ought to be able to get into some good schools.
So i'm asking if other students have this same problem with high ACT's and Low SATs. I plan on taking the ACT officially in February or April and i'll be pretty ****ed if it turns out that my practice ACT scores are not accurate.

Some kids just do better on one test than the other. My son had a 34 ACT
and a 1530 (M+CR)/2150(M+CR+W) SAT.

The 34 ACT converts into a 1490-1530 range for the M+CR and a M+CR+W range of 2280-2330 SAT.

So while his CR + M was in the conversion range for the 34 ACT his writing on the SAT really pulled his total down.

So if you can do well on one test stick with that one! Remember colleges only require one or the other.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the reply! Wow I hope I can achieve such a high score!

The SAT is also graded so that penalty is given for a wrong answer! This archaic technique needs to be eliminated as it was by he College Board for AP exams. The SAT tests aptitude which is ridiculous proving nothing… I mean why test on what you’ve learned? Honestly the SAT is a bad exam, mastered by ridiculous practice and an indication of little! Take the reading section, the examiners attempt to trick you, you answer to the best of your ability and may be incorrect, and as a reward the examiners additional penalize you a 1/4 pt ! Most who answer the reading questions are not guessing but are simply answering to the best of their ability… To penalize an incorrect answer is downright wrong in this scenario! My S received a 36 on the ACT reading section the week after he received a 550 on the reading section of the SAT. I guess that extra week made a reader out of him!!

wow!! thats awesome!!! I agree with you Oura54. I really feel like the SAT isn’t an accurate representation of my capabilities. These tests are supposed to be act as a indicator of how we will do in college, and I really think I will do well in college given all of the APs I have taken and how high my grades are. I’m glad the ACT exists.
