Hey there, I'm not too good with words, so please do bear with me.

I attended a decent UC for about a year, and was dismissed for poor academic performance due to a combination of health problems and lack of motivation.
Lately, I've been thinking about heading back to a four year school after attending CC for a while. However, this time I would really like to go to a more prestigious school, specializing in mechanical engineering.

What are some schools to look into? What are my chances of getting into those schools?

Additional Info:

High School GPA: 3.4 UW
College GPA: ~2.0
ACT: 31
SAT II's: ~ 750 for Physics, Math II, Bio.

This is my first time actually taking school seriously, in high school I started looking into colleges about a week before apps were due, so I'm not too familiar with 'prestigious' schools and the transfer process. I am pretty sure that if I try, I can get a ~4.0 at my local CC, if that matters at all. And on a side note, how would I calculate my cumulative college GPA?

There’s a problem there is you only want to go to a school for the “prestige”. You won’t be accepted at most schools unless you show that you want to go, get better grades, and show some motivation.

These 2 things don’t mix. If you were taking school seriously and could get a 4.0, you wouldn’t have a 2.x gpa.

While you at this CC, take some time to reflect on what you really want to do, set a goal, and act upon it. Showing motivation and taking charge of your life will help you in the long run, much more than going to a “prestigious” school.

Thanks for the prompt reply, I do want to do better, and I know I can. I just don’t know if it’s too late to think of getting into better colleges?

I guess that’s my real question right there.

Do I have a chance at getting into a better college at this point in time, assuming that I do indeed get a 4.0 at the CC.

BTW, I have a contract with my previous school which says that I am guaranteed readmission if I finish all my lower division engineering classes with an overall GPA of 3.1 at my CC.
