I'm an accepted SFS who really likes Georgetown's program, the DC area, and the possibility of interning in the capital.

However, I'm worried about diversity at Georgetown, and whether or not I will fit in there. I've always heard stuff about Georgetown like "it's very white, very upper-middle class, and very north-eastern geographically", and it's never worried me until recently when I've seriously started considering going there.

I'm an Asian-Oregonian, I'm not rich, and I'm a Republican. I know that I'll probably experience some culture shock if I move to DC, but is it just culture shock, or is there actually some substance behind the claim about lack of diversity? Are there any current students in a similar position (of being very much a minority), who can give me some reassurance?

well im a minority (hispanic) and the diversity at georgetown hasnt even come up as a worry for me about next year. ill be heading to the sfs next year and it seems like every other person i meet who has been accepted to the sfs/heading there next year is either an international, a minority, or very advanced in terms of knowing different languages. the sfs seems to me to have that international flair, so to be honest im not worried one bit about the diversity, or lack there of, next year.

I’d say that Georgetown is pretty homogenous, but I feel like minorities do have their own communities. At the same time, I see it as self-segregation - it’s not always true, but it’s common that close friends are within the same racial group.

Also, I would not worry about being a republican at Georgetown. Georgetown is fairly conservative for being a university. I know someone who is Asian and from the Pacific Northwest (Washington State) and she definitely seems to enjoy her time here.

OK so I’m a freshmen in the SFS. First off the SFS isn’t its own little bubble within Georgetown and you don’t only interact with fellow SFSers. Georgetown as a whole is a community and you will have friends from every school. there is absolutely nothing to worry about fitting in with the stereotyped image. this is NOT high school. you can make friends with anyone and everyone is really friendly. there’s pompous elitists in every college and Georgetown is no different, but you wouldn’t want to be friends with those kids anyways. So quit stressing because if you come here you will absolutely love the balance between school and the social life.
