Stats are about on the same lines as kiterunner, with 3.9 UW and a 2350 SAT. I am also low income, have a few leadership positions, top piano, academic teams, and also explained how I wouldn’t normally have the opportunity to visit a school so far away due to extenuating circumstances.

I personally think people should not list their stats because admissions people look at such a wide array of factors. I think if you want to state your type of school or something about your extra-curricular activities is fine but really people who get perfect scores on exams and have a straight A average are frequently denied admissions to top institutions. Whatever your stats are, it’s your essays along with other factors that matter. We can’t second guess what the admissions committee is looking for. Reviewing stats (always - and I read them each year all over these boards) end up in people who don’t get in arguing that the system wasn’t fair.

eventheoptimist, it’s totally up to the individual to submit these “stats” but I just think it creates this understandable feeling of why him or her and not me when the results of who gets in are later reported. Colleges accept students in a range so inevitably, those students who read of someone who has stats that they consider inferior to theirs end up hurt and outraged.

To Impw: I agree with you. GPA and test scores are one of many factors that colleges consider.I actually asked a fairly broad question, which was, What was your application like? I asked about people’s essays and ECs. I was not merely asking for SAT scores. In fact, that was the least on my mind.

courteau 91, yes, I see that you asked about essays and ecs. That all goes into the mix and are very important variables. If the decision was all about test scores and grades, colleges could just put those things into a computer and come up with admissions decisions. But, they’re looking at all aspects of the candidate.

Prism, just because you didn’t get accepted to the open house doesn’t mean you aren’t a great candidate for admissions. they don’t accept everyone and that’s certainly no reason to be discouraged unless you have not interest in Amherst and applied to the DIVOH just for the trip.

Amherst played a cruel trick on me today. I got a big packet from Admissions in the mail today and was hoping it was a decision. Turns out it was just a packet of school information for interested students. No mention of DIVOH at all. Ugh
