That is, if you choose to apply them. Im a senior, & have a few Bs and a couple Cs (stupid move on my part, trying to take 3 online classes during community college's 3 week winter session), and I want to know if I should retake a class I'm planning to use towards my gallatin degree (it's free until I graduate HS) or just use the new schedule space to take a fun class for my nerves.

& yes, I did get full college credit not just high school equivalency for all these- I'm in a middle college program, not just dual enrollment.

First, have you checked to see if NYU will transfer your credits? Some schools (one being NYU) won’t take my community college’s classes for high school students as credit.
In most ‘transfers’ credits career but gpa is wiped clean. As long as you got the credit, and got into NYU (or if you haven’t heard yet it’s too late to affect your admission decision anyway), I wouldn’t worry so much about taking the class again.

theresaax2– thanks for your comment, but I don’t understand the last paragraph of your response. “In most ‘transfers’ credits career but gpa is wiped clean.” What did you mean by this?
& I’ve already been accepted to NYU by ED1 so I’m not worried about admissions, just about my starting GPA. I’m also pretty sure that NYU will accept my credits, as I know of someone who graduated from my program a couple years ago and enrolled in NYU– the majority of her credits were honored. Again, thanks for your comment!

SIXE,

I think the point is that you have to see if NYU will accept your college course credits completed as credits towards your NYU degree. It sounds like you are pretty confident NYU will accept the credits based on your schoolmate’s experience, which is good.

When NYU accepts credits from another college, whatever GPA you got for those accepted college courses will NOT be factored in your NYU GPA. The credits are added towards the total credits required toward graduation with the bachelors from NYU.

so what your saying Evolving is that the grades you earned in community college classes dont count into your overall high school GPA.

Thank you Evolving! I’ll just be taking a Stress Management class then :)

Norcal,

I was addressing a separate matter with SIXE. Yours is a separate question. I will respond based on my understanding of your question. College courses taken as a high school student usually are graded and are factored into the H.S. GPA. At least, that was what happened in my son’s H.S. Though this may depend on the policy of the specific school. I do not know enough about how other high schools operate.

My response to SIXE referred to the NYU GPA, not the H.S. GPA.

thanks, I didn’t read your previous post correctly

Credits may transfer and count towards your NYU degree, however, they will not be reflected in your GPA here unless you choose to apply as a transfer student rather than an incoming freshman.

^ Thanks, I’m an incoming freshman, so that’s good news!
