My nephew attended a local community college several years ago and due to health issues, has been unable to return or to transfer to a four-year college. He informed me that someone told him that after 7 years, college credits "expire" and unless he continues to pursue his degree (whether an Associate's or Bachelor's), he will lose these credits. I never heard of such a thing -- does anyone know if such a rule exists? Thanks.

College credits from accredited institutions never “expire”. In fact, for as long as your nephew is alive, he will need to provide an official copy of that CC transcript whenever he applies to a degree program, or for a job that asks for all of his transcripts - even if he ultimately works his way up to a Ph.D. However, each college and university determines for itself which credits are acceptable for transfer, and in the case of professional programs (such as nursing) whether or not too much time has elapsed and a course must be re-taken.

Your nephew needs to find out from the college/university that he would like to attend what that institution’s specific policies are.

Thanks so much happymomof1.
