Do colleges care about midterm grade?

So I did really bad on my midterm in one class. I've had an a- average all year but I got a low c on the midterm. Now at my school, finals are optional and I was wondering if it would be worth it to take the final. If I take the final whatever my grade is that I get on it will be combined with the C and then averaged out. This acts as another semester so to speak. But I did all the math and even if I were to get a 100 of the final my final grade will still be only a B+. (It'll also still be a B+ if I don't take the final).

But I'm not sure colleges will look happily on this. What will they think if they see all A- and that one C- ? I'm also not sure if my guidance counselor will indicate that I didn't take the final and I don't want them to think that I did poorly on both my midterm and final. I'm looking at some good top schools, do you think this one low midterm my junior year will really affect admissions? Should I just take the final to try and boost my 5th semester even though it'll have no overall affect on my final grade? I mean will it really matter if I had a C- that 5th semester instead of the B or so I would get if I took the final and did better than a C- on it?

I'd really like to not have to take the final but if it'll ruin my chance at being admitted anywhere I'll take it.

no one has any advice?

I would ask your GC. In the school where my daugther attends, no final exam or midterm grades show…only the completed final year grade is on the transcript. Maybe just ask your GC to show you a sample transcript…you’ll see if any of the tests show up on it.

It’s unlikely they will care what you get on the midterm. Every teacher is technically responsible for grading on the standard distribution. Your /final grade is all that really matter.

I know of no HS that use mid term grades in the culmulative GPA. Since Culm GPA is what’s evaluated, then mid term grades = non issue
