Do colleges look at AP scores

If I were to study AP Physics C: Mechanics and get a 4/5, will it help my chances at getting into a good school?

It depends on the school. Some schools like Harvard will view it just like additional subject test scores.

AP scores are beneficial in two regards:

 1. You can often get college credit for 4,5 AP scores
 2. AP scores help you prove that you are ready for the “rigors” of college

I think most schools don’t look at AP test scores during admissions (most…maybe there are a few?)

But don’t slack off on your APs. A lot of colleges allow students to register for classes based on their credit hour rankings (the more credit hours a student has the earlier the student can register for courses). This means that if you get a bunch of AP credits, you will be more likely to get better profs and better class times!

I saw an Amherst admission committee transcript where they were impressed by the student self studying for a slew of AP’s, because his school didn’t offer any. but anything is going to be look at in context.
