Do colleges look down upon ap economics????

The title is self explanatory.

Be more specific. Are you asking if it will diminish your chances of admission? No. Will it be accepted and counted towards your unit total? Yes.

Do some UCs reject AP Econ credit if you’re an econ major? I believe so.

Thanks @Cayton‌. Could you please explain the last question???

@YPM2014‌

Well, I believe Berkeley, for example, won’t accept AP econ credit in the sense that they’ll allow it to satisfy major requirements for economics. You’d need to take a community college econ class instead.

Thanks @Cayton‌

No school “looks down upon” AP credit, that’s crazy. You’re good, don’t worry :)

Thanks @randombookie‌

@randombookie, but they may not accept it for major req. So there is that limitation. Otherwise they won’t care - but I will add one thing for OP. I don’t know Econ and various sequences, but if the AP is part of a sequence, OP should verify that it will be accepted if he/she takes the next level as a real class. Because if for some reason it isn’t accepted, it’s a bad situation as the courses are deemed out of sequence (2 before1), and then you’re stuck, because you can’t take 1 after you’ve taken 2 and get credit, and the UC may not accept you if you’re missing the first.

That’s probably not the situation, but check about possible sequencing and find out from a counselor, and your projected dept, if necessary.

I hope not, my senior is taking AP Econ. She has a social studies requirement every year and since she already took APWH, APUSH and APEuro there was only APGov and AP Econ to choose from and she didn’t want APGov.
If she gets a 4 or 5 on the exam she should be able to get credit for gen ed requirements at least. You have to check each school’s policy on accepting AP credits.

Thanks @mommdc

Thanks @lindyk8‌

Well, like a lot of AP tests, you can probably can’t use them for anything but credit. I think the UCs accept both of the AP Econ tests for one of the lower division classes.

The problem is different UCs accept different scores and tests.

Thanks @CSB111
