Do colleges really care about when you take AP exams?

I could either take AP Calculus BC Junior year or Senior year

If I take it as a Junior, I'll be able to get my score and send it to colleges.

But do you think it'll really make a difference if I take it senior year? How much do colleges weigh these AP exams? Is there any difference if you took the class before or after you apply to colleges?

AP exams in general don’t weigh heavily for admissions purposes and whether you take it junior or senior year won’t change whether you get college credit for it, so no, it won’t make any real difference.

Getting good grades throughout Calculus BC will show colleges that you are capable of doing so, helping your application. So I think it would be to your advantage to take the class your Junior year.

In comparison with EC’s–which do colleges weigh more???

AP scores are self-reported on applications. AP classes indicate a more rigorous course load and that is what colleges are looking for. Additionally, many schools really limit how many APs their students take, so there would be no way a college would know your school’s policies.

EC’s. Much, much more.

Colleges want to see that you are taking the most rigorous courses that are offered in your high school. The AP scores themselves have little weight because they are self-reported on the Common Application and they do not look at the official scores from CB until you have been admitted to their school.
