what if you make corrections? do they recieve two?

Most likely you've filled the form with estimated numbers. I wouldn't make any corrections until I get my tax return done.

From the processing confirmation email [SAR] that my D received:

"After comparing the information on your FAFSA with the
information on your tax return, you must correct any FAFSA information
that is not accurate and you must also update FAFSA questions #32 (#76
for parents) to "already completed" to indicate that your information is
now based on completed tax returns."

After you submit your FAFSA online, it takes a few days to process through the system. The day after it's processed, the info is made available to the schools. The same is true if it's an online correction.

So many people kept telling me to file the FAFSA early --like asap-- with estimated numbers, and then correct it later when we've gotten all our exact figures from w2s, 1099s, etc. So I did.

Then I re-read the letter from the college's finaid office, and they suggested waiting until you've completed your taxes to file it. Shoot. I guess it means they'll get two slightly different SARs. I wish I'd waited, but I assume it won't be a big problem.

Some schools want the FAFSA by Feb. 1 - you may not have everything to file a complete return by then.

Nope, it's not a big issue. The financial aid administrator will just readjust the financial aid package.
