At my school, we get to see our quarter grades on a portal, but the only grades reported at the end of the year are semester 1 and semester 2 grades. Will universities that I am applying early to see my first quarter grades?
Only if the GC sends or the college specifically requests from a particular applicant.
Some schools require them for ED. My daughter’s school does not have quarter grades, so the counselor had to pull them midway through the semester and send.
Some ask to see them, some don’t.
Yale doesn’t ask to see them, right? I’ve checked on Google and it’s not very clear. On their website, they require a “mid-year report”, but to my understanding, that’s a semester report?
How likely/unlikely would you say it is for a GC to send a report or for Yale to request one? The reason why I’m so worried is that I might have one B in my first quarter grades (I think I can get it up to an A by the end of the semester though). Do you think this could have a major impact on admissions? Should I reconsider REAing?
My school calls these grades “progress grades” and they are typically available - at least to students and parents - by November 5. The quarter typically ends late October. The only grades that show up on the final report card and transcript are still semester 1 and semester 2 grades only.
A midyear report only shows semester grades (unless your school also shows quarter grades) and is not sent until well after decisions have been made forEA/ED.
Yale does not normally request Q1 updates, but they have in the past for some applicants. I would not let that deter your from applying SCEA
