Hey guys,
Do colleges look at first quarter grades if my school grades on a semester basis. We recently received a report card for the first quarter of senior year. Can colleges see what I got or are semester grades the only ones that matter? I am applying early action to some colleges.
Thanks for any help

anyone? please I need some help here

Given that Early Action applicants receive decisions around December, I doubt first semester grades can come into play. I doubt they’ll receive quarter grades because those are considered to have too much variability to be an accurate gauge. But that’s not to say you should just completely let go of everything, they’ll still check on you if you’re accepted.

Read this “Ask the Dean” column: [Do Colleges Look at Quarter & Semester Grades? - Ask The Dean](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/dean/archives/582.htm)

Short answer: First quarter grades are very important for EA, ED, and Rolling Admission candidates who apply before semester grades are out. Even many regular decision candidates are evaluated using first-quarter grades, although the colleges will typically wait for semester grades (assuming that they’re pending soon) before issuing a final verdict. Even so, those first-quarter grades can create an important first impression … whether good or bad.

I am not so sure that is correct. Large numbers of colleges (majority) go by grades only through junior year. As to others, high schools I am aware usually do not even report midterm grades when they send a transcript during your first semester senior year and when you do the mid-year report at the end of the semester high schools generally just put end of semester grades on a transcript. Schools with EA and ED mostly do not require that you report midterm grades although some request such.
