Maybe my other thread was too specific. Is it typical for a high school student in China to attend a boarding school? If my American son attends a boarding school in Beijing or Shangjai will there be native students who are boarders or only international students?

I can assure you as a Chinese student very few of us go to boarding school in terms of proportion. But given china’s huge population (lol), the number of boarding school students is not small. the boarding school you referred to (they are actually called international school in China) has more foreign students than native students as far as I’m concerned.

Hope my post above would help. Please feel free to ask me any questions! (:

I’ll post again when I find out which school he will attend. He should find out in May. I did learn that Chinese law prohibits Chinese students from sharing living quarters with international students so I know that he will not have a Chinese roommate, unfortunately. I hope his roommate is not another American student. He will be matched with a Chinese student to go home with him for weekends and vacations. I am hoping for Beijing but I’m sure he would like Shangjai, too.

Really? I don’t even know there’s law like that… Our high school actually received a U.S. kid and she was staying at my teacher’s. Anyway good luck with your son.
