I have my heart set on U of I and I have since I was 14. Now, I’ve come to realize that I may not have a chance. I hate to be so negative, but I need to be realistic. I lack severely in EC’s, but my ACT is a 26 (w/ no prep, hoping to get it up to a 28), I’ve taken many AP classes and done well in them, my gpa is a 3.67 (a little on the low side? not sure how it is compared to their average), and I am applying as an education major, which they say the average ACT is a 25-29. Will not having a lot of EC’s ruin my application? Please be honest haha, this isn’t the only school I really like, but my family (and me as well) really want me to go here. Thanks!
The acceptance rate is somewhat high, you should be fine.
When I applied for the fall of 2014, I had very similar stats to you and I was rejected. I was only in a few clubs, had an ACT of 26 the first and also hoped to bump it up to a 28, but I got a 27. My GPA was 3.62 weighted. If yours is a 3.67 unweighted I think that should help you a lot and I’d lean more towards a yes, you’ll get in. I don’t know how great your essays are but based on your stats alone, it could go either way.
