I am a good student with good grades, that has had many hardships, I have something that I am passionate about, and I think think Stanford will be impressed with my achievements thus far, I have also written great essays, etc. BUT, and this is a big BUT (no pun intended, aha) I have done terribly on the SAT (first attempt, no practice, no calculator, no functioning brain, there were so many terrible things going on at that time - the SATs were the last thing on my mind, this shouldn't be an excuse, but that was the reality), the number is so pathetic that I won't even post it. It is lower than a 2000, lower than a 1500...just sad.

I don't even know why I am bothering. I am extremely paranoid - what if I actually study properly and I get a score that isn't even good enough?

I have started charities for one cause, raised thousands of dollars, written a book, I am caregiver to Veterans, I am a painter, and other things...What are my chances? People tell me that Stanford looks at your SAT scores first, which obviously worries me, if I don't get above a 2000+, the next time I take it (October).

I am Middle Eastern (I don't think you need to know this, but whatever. haha)

Thanks for reading my horror story. :) haha
I already know I have no chance at all, don't be harsh.

Okay, so go retake it then. I don’t see what’s the problem here. You were far from prepared then, but you should be far more prepared come October. If you have enough energy to be paranoid, then allocate it to studying and practicing. No one can say for certain if you can get into Stanford, but if you just continue floundering and worrying about whether you can achieve a certain score, you’re just going to waste precious time and get nothing done. Go read some of the awesome threads that have been stickied on CC and start practicing. If your ECs are as good as you have made them seem, all you really need to concern yourself over is the SAT then, so focus your energy on doing well now.

So you say your ECs are good enough for Stanford - Good, Stanford finds ECs extremely important. But what about your other grades? Like your GPA’s, APs? Are those up to pair? If so, assuming you write a good essay, then you’ll just need to study your *** off and get a 2300 or something like that, but that seems unlikely… <1500 is really, really low…

ZafarS, throughout my three years most of my classes have been AP. I don’t keep track of my GPA because I don’t want to look at it (I am strange, I guess), but my grades are pretty good, so I don’t think it should be terrible. :S

Murphy600 - 3’s, and 4’s, and some 2’s (when I was in the 9th grade). I haven’t taken any subject tests, but I will. The book is pending, but I don’t think it will ever get published, so I have to remove that from my list. I do have a wide range. Stanford is just a dream, I will apply just for the heck of it, but I know there are people WAY more brilliant and have done things I couldn’t even imagine, they are deserving. Thank you :)

Murphy600 - I don’t do much ECs but the ones I do are related to my passion. I am either the leader/I have some sort of position in my ECs. I enjoy them. :)

its ok, you have way better ec’s than me, and i want to go there as a dream school too. if the sat is your draw back, then i suggest you take an SAT prep course. they raised me from a 1600 to a 2000, and i still have about 8wks left to improve( still going). if you dont have the money to pay for it, then maybe you can get a personal tutor and discuss ur weaknesses. if all else fails, then you need to forget everything around you and bury yourself in SAT prep. there are numerous stories on CC about people whoi have self studied and scored at MINIMUM of 200 pts. higher. good luck. and can you give me some tips on what to do for good EC’s for stanford. i am totally stumped right now, all i have are about 40 volunteering hours and some sports. how did you start the fundraiser and be a caregiver. whould you EC’s be related to your major. thanks=)
