Even though I don't have the highest scores, I think I might get in

I have a 4.17 GPA and rank 39 of 740. I've gotten a lot of B's, but I've taken rigorous rigorous courses; courses that apply to my major at that (Computer Programming). I got an 800 on the Math 2 and a 750 on the Physics, but a 2000 overall SAT 1 might hurt.

The thing is I have diversity. I sent in a CD of me playing piano (and yes I played really well for it), I played varsity football, my mom makes less than 20 000 a year, I have a brown belt in karate, and being a computer programmer my essays were WELL above avg. I think that since I'm diverse I might get in.

ok.
hey someone here has confidence! hehe

Good thing about Stanford is that they take people from such different backgrounds and experiences. I think you have a chance too!

I'm a lot more confident than I thought I'd be too.

i have a 2230 SAT, 4.51 gpa, asb, varsity tennis four years, awesome recs and i wanna say very, very good essays...

and yet i dont have an ounce of confidence.

maybe i just dont want to get my hopes up real high and then see that rejection letter come in in december..

so my advice is:
don't get your hopes up too high. they reject a load of very able people.

^ That was very encouraging mister sarcasm.
yo even though your rank is somewhat low compared to other applicants, I think you have solid chances... just write a good essay and get sum good reccs.

Its good to have confidence. However, its foolish to expect acceptance.

thats for darn sure...hehe
its nice to hear people having confidence...we all know we have slim chances of getting accepted (some have less slim chances...but some of us do...) its a good thing to be positive. keep it up!

haha... well said ramsfan, took the words out of my mouth...

dude i think almost everyone that applies has that level of diversity ... but yeah your mom being poor might help out somewhat... hopefully you mentioned it somewhere...

maybe you will get accepted... :)

hehe btw he's not expecting acceptance, he just said i think i might get in ....

Just make sure to have a backup plan...

"dude i think almost everyone that applies has that level of diversity"

haha yeah..

man, i like your confidence dude. i wish i could be more like that.

4.8 gpa (all A's), #1 out of about 600
800 on math 2
780 on physics
2180 on sat 1
black belt in tae kwon do
tennis, clubs, etc
won few nice awards (state, region, and school)

yet i still have no confidence. i think its because everyone who applies to stanford has the same or even better things than i do.

haha what do you mean "yet"
obviouslly you think your scores are good

LOL@ post above me

@matt630.

when i say yet, i mean my scores are higher than vagrant star's.

I'm almost certain scores don't mean ****

because think about it : there are plenty of very intelligent people with under 4.0s and under 2300 SATs ... perhaps smarter and more interesting people! i think the scores just get you to the "maybe" stage, and after that they play little significance (unless of course there are two equal candidates one w/ better scores)

i think scores are used to determine competitive and noncompetitive. and then they prob start really looking at your essays... but that's just my opinion.
ack...i'm slowly losing confidence b/c i realize that sooooo many people prob have similar apps.

HEHE!!! NOBODY wants to be a social/cultural anthropologist. Espeically any east indian/fijians who dance and do cancer research. Obscure? Yes. But you know what with the way Stanford admissions goes, I have numbed myself to the thought of getting in.

Good luck everyone, its just a waiting game.

Haha. I love OPs attitude. I'm the same way. I told all my friends I'm going to MIT '06.

... Am I really? Yes. Yes. Yes. Perhaps not. But definately yes.
