do i have a chance at higher tier colleges ?

I messed up my freshman and sophomore year since my father passed away and I was in a plane crash the same year (luckily I survived). It was an all around bad year for me since I had to take care of my other family members
My unweighted freshman GPA was a 3.0 and 3.3
My unweighted sophomore GPA was 3.4 and 3.4

I realized I needed to get my life together starting junior year- also my family had recovered by then so I actually had time.
My unweighted junior year GPA was 3.5 and 4.0 (Weighted 4.4)
My unweighted first semester senior year is likely a 4.0 (Weighted 4.6 or 4.7)

AP scores: Bio 3,
APUSH 2,
English Lang 5
Psych 4

ACT: 31 (retaking so I can get 32 or above)
And I plan to take the SAT II bio and u.s history

I am secretary/PR of a club, have done many internships at medical offices, which is what I want to pursue

I am also a pre-olympic athlete, president of my club, am in the junior olympic national team, coached by the olympic head coach. (archery)

  • I got certified in this sport as a coach, so I teach disabled kids for free, since I am disabled myself.

Have any of you seen people getting into higher tier schools with stats like these ? My dream school is Stanford (I live in CA), but I worry so much since my freshman and sophomore grades are so low.

You have a unique situation, which your guidance counselor should DEFINITELY mention in her recommendation. It’s not like you slacked off- there are legitimate reasons for your lower stats.
If you can retake the ACT, score highly on the SAT IIs, I think you have a shot and should definitely apply to some higher tier schools (just make sure you have some safeties that you feel confident you’ll get into).

Dang girlfriend! You have plenty to write about and this is all unique! Go for it but have a great year of grades! All schools look at grades.

@idkhowthisworks

Agree with the above, but Stanford is exceedingly unlikely. Maybe you should focus more on schools like UCSD, UCI, etc. for state schools, and for privates maybe schools more like…well, before I start suggesting, are you restricting yourself to California schools, schools in the west, or what? Any other likes/dislikes that would help narrow things down?

Wow! Kudos for surviving a plane crash!
