as you can see i dont have many school related ecs since i moved to america my junior year

any help will be appreciated

Ugh, things look sort of bleak for you. I mean, apply if you like the school, but I'd say you have about a 13% chance...

hehe... ashveer.. 13%.. old answer

i'd say you have a pretty interesting background. definitely some interesting experiences. it all depends on how you convey those experiences through your essays, and illustrate the passion you have for those. if you do it just right, you will have a good shot

maybe even a little better than 13%. (:

OK, let's do this. You've got a damn good shot EC wise, stanford likes it when you fight the good fight. I mean, what do you want us to say. You know you have a good shot, if you are in the dark you don't have the critical thinking skills that Stanford requires. Its the whole 3+4=7 thing...

ashveer said it all

i do have some idea.. will use my essays to convey who i am

I don't mean to be rude...but why stanford??

Because she's pakistani and the only schools asian parents will accept are prestigious ones.

stanford is NOT the only prestigious school; princeton is much closer, has a higher acceptance rate (EA) is a higher ranked school; why not try there?

"Because she's pakistani and the only schools asian parents will accept are prestigious ones."

Same here :)

Out of curiosity, what are you, goldfish? Im punjabi (indian).

"Because she's pakistani and the only schools asian parents will accept are prestigious ones"

ok not true at all- lots of my paki friends get into lesser known schools, do very well and are happy.

most of pakistan's successful and rich people went to local unis
goldfish- i am not applying to princeton bec it is not one of my top choices plus to get into princeton u need to be a genius/athlete

Most of the people who worked on the human genome project went to state schools too. I don't see your point. Your parents still want you to go to a top uni.

I didn't say indo/pak kids don't do well or aren't happy at less prestigious schools. Your friend's parents would much rather have had their kids go to Harvard than Duke, regardless of it Duke it "fit" them better. You cannot deny the way our cultures work.

And you still didn't say why you wanted Stanford specifically. All of the ives are closer, most have higher acceptance rates etc.

AGREE to how our culture views that!

That's why Jojo and I are having chai tommorow afternoon.
: )

since the issue was brought up, and just because, i think i'll put it out there that i'm punjabi.
haha

me...I'm Chinese

ashveer: That's why Jojo and I are having chai tommorow afternoon.
: )

lol.
i'm bengali. not too many of those around here... or anywhere.
but the expectations we face are the eeeeeexact same.
