Do I have a chance at UGA?

I am currently a Junior (Female, East Indian, GA resident) with a 3.3 GPA and a 1890 SAT score. I have all As right now and hoping to bring my
SAT and GPA up. I have taken 6 AP classes and am currently in the IB program (certificate, IB history of America, Language, Spanish, all higher-level IBs). My extracurriculars include- Student Council, Interact (recycling) Club, Spanish Honors Society, 11 years of training in classical dance, and officer position in a cultural youth committee. All my classes (other than AP and IB) have been Gifted, with the exception of 2 Honors classes. I have over 250 volunteer hours from volunteering at 2 hospitals, an MYP fundraising project I conducted for IB (which earned me a top 5 MYP award and recognition from the company I fundraised for), and other organizations. What are my chances at UGA? I know my GPA is horrible, but does anything else make up for it?

You must bring up that GPA. You seem like a good student with great ECs, but your stats are below average for class of 2012’s profile. I would advise you to see how class of 2013 does this year. From what I’ve gathered from data and word of mouth, UGA is expected to beat class of 2012’s record in terms of student profile.

Your GPA is also in the average range. How did you do in your 6 AP courses? One area where students fail to take into account is how well you do in AP courses. Colleges like to see you challenge yourself and do well. Taking challenging courses and not passing a single AP exam is not indicative of a smart, responsable student. The average student in class of 2012 had 11 AP credit hours.

I am currently taking AP Psych, and have a 103 average right now. I am expecting a high AP exam score. I am sure I will pass all 3 IB exams also, as I have a good understanding of the classes.
I have listed my exam score in parentheses and my percent score I finished the class with.
Freshman Yr- Bio (2) 90%
Sophomore Yr- Gov (2) 95%, Econ (2) 85%, AP Art Hist (4), 99%, AP Lang (4) 88%
I know I did horribly these past 2 years, but will I be able to at least raise my GPA a bit?
Also, thank you so much for your feedback!

Really, what I would do is retake the SAT or ACT. You have plenty of time. Your scores are about average and it seems you haven’t done too well in those AP classes.

Your ECs are phenomenal though.

Good luck!

Thank you for the feedback, I will definitely be taking the SAT over and the ACT soon.

Halcyontimes is correct. Retaking the SAT and doing your best to bring up your GPA would be your best bets. Remember, it’s still a game to be played when it comes to college admissions. You win some, you lose some.
