SAT (not super-scored): 720 Math, 740 CR, 790 Writing = 2250
- should I have another go?

School's I'd love to attend (yes, I realize it's quite a few and I probably need more safeties):
Emory University
University of Notre Dame
Georgetown University
George Washington University
Princeton University
Harvard University
Stanford University
UC Berkeley
UNC Chapel Hill
Duke University
Middlebury College

Thank you so much! And if you have any suggestions about anything, I'd love to hear them (especially suggestions about schools I would like). I plan on applying for Economics, Russian/ Slavonic Studies, or International Relations depending on the school and what it offers.

Yes, you need safeties. As a white female from the mid atlantic, you can not 100% count on a single school on this list, although GW seems likely.

HPS are such high reaches, I’d think twice about spending time on those applications. In your shoes I’d spend the time upping the CR and M scores for a better shot at schools on the Duke/Berkeley/Midd level.

Sorry but those aren’t ECs

I think UCB is going to be reaches for you since you are out of state. And Princeton University, Harvard University, Stanford University are going to be reaches (but they are like that for everyone.

Thanks to all who responded!
With regards to my SAT scores, what should I aim for on my CR and M sections so that I have a decent shot at the schools mentioned?
Any thoughts on my chances for Emory, Georgetown, and Notre Dame?

try to get 750 on all sections if not more to be able to be considered in Harvard, Stanford and the other ivies

Would you all consider Boston College a safety for me? Or is that still too much of a reach?

Look at their common data sets. For a reasonable shot, an unhooked candidate from the Mid Atlantic will want to be at or above the 75th percentile in everything.

Emory University - Match/In
University of Notre Dame - Reach for Everybody
Georgetown University - Reach for Everybody
George Washington University - Match/ In
Princeton University - Reach for Everybody
Harvard University -Reach for Everybody
Stanford University - Reach for Everybody
UC Berkeley - OOS makes it a little reach, but if you don’t need aid you’re probably in
UNC Chapel Hill - OOS reachy, but same as Berkeley
Duke University - Reach
Middlebury College - Don’t Know Enough About
Boston College - Match to slight reach (what’s your unweighted GPA?)

You have a decent enough profile, but Princeton, Harvard and Stanford are ludicrously hard to get into and Duke, ND and Georgetown aren’t much easier. You might get into 2 or 3 of them or you might get shut out from those 6.

If you retake your SATs, you ask what should I aim for?
“With regards to my SAT scores, what should I aim for on my CR and M
sections so that I have a decent shot at the schools mentioned?”
First, I don’t think you should take your SATs again. 2250 is already good. I think it feeds-the-frenzy to retake these tests over and over. Who wins? The testmakers. Not you: you just wasted more time on studying something that will make no difference in 3 months.

But in answer to your question: you should aim for 2400. Dah!!!

Middlebury is most well known for its foreign language program. You might also want to look into other LACs, like Colgate. Skip the ivies, unless you really like something there besides their name.
