The 5.0 is usually due to a HUGE curve. My school does that (add 5 points to honors and 10 points to AP classes when calculating your weighted GPA).

what school has 50 people in a graduating class?
but anyways, most of those accepted at stanford were usually #1 or #2…
plus being in the top 5% isn’t enough for him. it’s pretty low and not enough to balance out his SAT and it pales in comparison to his extracurriculars, which are really spread out and shows no commitment

^ You obviously havn’t seen the wide range in class sizes of CCers. The kids accepted to Stanford from my school this year were ranked 3rd and 11th. I’m not saying top 5% is enough to guarantee admission, I’m just debunking your claim that his rank is horribly low.

yeah i guess i went to far with that statement which i seemed to have made on an absolute basis. but what i meant was, on a relative basis compared to his other stats, it’s not that good.

Your somewhat low-GPA and extremely low SAT score will most likely keep you out. Average ECs. And course load isn’t rigorous enough to compensate for your GPA. I’d probably say no.

Well it is possible for someone to have really good grades and get a low SAT score. But I guess we’ll just have to wait for him to tell us if it’s out of 1600 or 2400.
