Do I have a chance to get into UC Davis?

Hey guys! i just want to know what my chances are getting into Uc davis in california.

My first Sat i got a 1500, but i have been getting 1740s on my practices tests. im taking my sats in october and im studying really hard.
I also plan on taking sat subject tests ( math lvl 2, us history, and maybe bio)

My gpa:
10-12 3.58 unweighted, 3.92 weighted
9-12 3.68 unweighted, 3.88 weighted
i dont know what gpa is counted towards college.

My extracurriculars:
4 years in earth club. No position. We started the first recycling program :)
4 years in polynesian club. no position.
2 years volunteering in the library but only like 20 hours

I am a senior righht now, and i am soo nervous about college admission. Please give me some advice. i greatly appreciate it.

Your extracurriculars are weak, as they’re minimal and have no leadership positions. There’s a slight upward trend in your GPA which is always good, and if you get a better SAT score in October you’ll have a better shot. I’d say right now it’s a reach, but if you improve the GPA and the SAT, maybe do some more EC’s, you’ll have a better shot.

oh thank you! but it’s my senior year. if i start new ecs, wouldn’t it not count? that’s what my counselor said.

I’ll give some advice.

Your EC’s are sort of weak like commanderkeen42 said. There’s no leadership roles or anything and that’s what UC’s look at a lot. It won’t do any good to start EC’s now since it won’t show commitment. You probably have things you do that you wouldn’t suspect as EC’s. Babysitting younger siblings, working, etc are all valuable things as well.

DEFINITELY try and raise your SAT and what major are you trying to get into at UC Davis? I’m surprised you didn’t try your SAT II’s already but try those. Any AP scores?

UC’s don’t look at senior year grades to determine if you get in; they’ll only see your course levels (and how difficult, NO SLAKING). They do look at 9th grade but 10-11th grades are the most important. Do you know your UC GPA?

I tutor my cousin but I don’t think that really matters. haha
I plan on majoring in psychology or biology.
I am in the IB program but I am taking some Ib tests at the end of my senior year.
I am not sure about my UC gpa.

Thank you music lover

Firstly, Are you out-of-state? Can you afford out of state tuition? Out-of-state tuition and fees are currently $36,738. Financial aid for OOS applicants is almost non-existent because the state is out of money.

SAT score is too low. Get that up.

no i am in state. i took a practice test for the sat and i got 1900. is 1900 good?

sat: you are on the right track. Plus, you probably did more with your ec’s than you think. Davis is a green campus, highlight your recycling program experience. As a senior, organize a beach clean-up, you still have a little time. Good luck!

yay! oh that’s a great idea. but we are busy doing presentations in elementary schools. thanks aunt bea

SAT: DD is an entering freshman at Davis. We were told that they don’t allow plastic water bottles on campus, and that each student is given a metal bottle to refill at the water refill stations. There are 40K bikes on campus. Like I said, it is a very GREEN campus. When you apply, if there is somewhere you can allude to your 4 years on the Earth Club and your recycling campaign, beach clean up etc., it will make a difference.

Again, get that SAT score up and focus on your ec’s; it’s not to late to continue to enhance your resume! Finish your presentations and organize the cleanup, get it on the local news-they do that if you call the station and let them know you’re a high school student-and count that as an “EC” experience= “Lead in Beach clean-up publicized on local news station”. Don’t limit yourself and good luck; let us know when you get in!

Thanks aunt bea! but i think my chances for uc davis are really slim. I am trying my best though to make the best out of my personal statement and my SAT score.
