So I’m a Junior turning into a Senior in the fall & im really worried about colleges in general. I really want to go to Uc Davis as my future college but i dont know if my grades can get me in. ive been slacking off highschool year & actually started trying this year, haha which is pretty pointless
but anyways i have

GPA: 3.1 <— gonna go up alittle because junior year second semester isnt added
SAT1 : 1790
SAT2: Korean 740
Chem: 610
im going to try to break a 2000 on sat 1
and korean im FORSURE going to get 800…hopefully.
& im going to try to raise chem and math to at least 700

I have alot of volunteer hours, around 250?
im in NHS & CSF

if you guys can get back to me that would be great!
& please no negative comments! thank you! :)

your stats are like mine, except your gpa is kinda on the low side, tell me is that wieghted or not?
i didn't take Korean for Sats, i took Mathlvl2(mandatory), World History, and Physics
740-math
680-history
640-physics
i joined some clubs and sports team over the my high school years, but i am not sure that really helped.

I AM PRETTY SURE YOU CAN GET IN, just need to pull up your GPA

I also had a question directed at college admission…here are my stats
weighted gpa…4.1
unweighted…3.75
SAT 1…1670
SAT 2 US HIST…680…I WILL TAKE ANOTHER subject in october
EC…freshman basketball
CSF(4 YRS)
operated my father’s store during freshman and sophmore year ( 2 YRS)…does this count as a job eventhough i did not get paid?
youth group
volunteer at the local mosque (100 hrs)
AP classes world history( did not pass)
us history (most likely will pass with 4
english 11 ( most likely will pass with 3)
pysch ( did not take test)
senior year iam going to take 4 AP classes ( english, law and gov’t, art history, bio)
Now, i was wondering if i can get into UCSD or UCI???thanks if you can help( and even if you cant)

The stats provided by Shrinkrap above are a good predictor, but don’t forget that admission to UCD has become more selective, even in the past two years. I believe the average GPA is now a 4.0 and the overall admit rate has fallen below 50%

this is a nifty point system i found for UC Davis
it’s about 1-2 years outdated so the cutoff guess probably isn’t accurate but the point system is

Getting his SAT I above 2000 doesn’t mean . I had very similar stats and a 2000 SAT I score and still got denied the first time around. Be careful with the way you word things and give advice, since if he did break 2000 and still got denied, you’ll look like an * who doesn’t know anything.

@ O P

lovefliesx3 hit the nail right on the head. When I was first receiving my admission notices, I realized the kids who had higher GPA’s than me but lower SAT scores were getting admitted and I wasn’t. I thought my SAT I scores would carry me over into admission despite my lackluster GPA, and boy was I wrong. Flat out denial from UCD (but I’m here now as a transfer, so I guess I got what I wanted in the end anyway).

Now, typically I wouldn’t advise “cheating” the system, but you could theoretically apply to an easier, lesser impacted major (i.e. Asian Studies, History, etc.) and after getting admitted, change your major to the one you really want. UCB and UCLA have bans on this, so don’t think you could do this to get into your dream school, but UCD has not blocked this major-changing just yet. Consider this your final course of action if you are terribly worried about getting admitted.

what is academic prep program for the point system?
and sorry but can someone chance me? ill make it short

uw gpa: 3.82
w gpa: 3.96
sat: 1810
Sat 2: math II 660, taking one more in November
-200hrs community service
-CSF all but one semester
-AVID
-baseball: fr,soph,jr

Hey I know everyone is asking to get if they can get in UC Davis, so am i haha. I have a 3.5 GPA, I know it is kinda low, i really tried my best my junior year and got a 4.1 GPA. By Senior year i have taken 4 ap classes. I have played football and basketball. I was a Leader of FCA at our school, treasurer of Cookies and Caupcakes for a Cause. I am in NHS and CSF. And i have 28 on the ACT. PLEASE HELP!

Don’t UC’s tend to look at extra-curriculars more? Thats what the admissions guy at UCSB told me. The more sports/clubs/groups your in the better, since each HS is different. I didn’t know I was from the ghetto until i went to fresh-orientation, were everybody had 5’s on all the AP tests. Were im from, we have only APUSH, AP Bio, Calculus AB, and AP Lit. I didn’t get higher than a 3 on any of them (Lit) 2 on Calc (My major) and 2 on APUSH. I was drumline capt. and got into National Honor Society by 3rd qtr of senior year, with a 3.9 GPA finishing. I gotta tell you all though, at my highschool everything was easy to Ace if you copied off the other guy, and intelligence wasn’t quite encouraged, popularity was. Since that made me look brilliant, despite that fact that there were more Auto-tech, Woodshop, Health career classes than academics, it would easily make my schools top 10 look brilliant despite the contrary. GPA is not as important, SAT/AP slightly moreso, but the things that really define YOU will end up making or breaking you. Hope that helps.

PS I got a 1650 on my SAT I and a total of 1150 on Math 2/Lit

UC looks at everything in depth now. Since there’s no SAT Subject requirement to apply to UC’s anymore, expect LOTS of competition. So everyone wishing to be accepted by Davis and every other UC college need to step up their game regardless of where you stand in gpa, sat, extra curriculars. Beef up that personal essay because that is going to help you a lot if you’re borderline. & to be honest I just came back from Davis’ orientation and there were a lot of asian kids in general (mostly chinese) have that in mind when you’re asian cause it’s getting hard to get into college when you’re just “another” asian. UCI for example took much more hispanic students this year over asian from my school’s poll. It’s not fair, but you gotta do what you gotta do & like what many people said getting a 2000+ on your SATs doesn’t mean you’ll get into Davis. It’s just more than numbers for now.

It is illegal for colleges in California to admit based on race. They find ways to get around it (ie. giving special consideration to students from low API schools knowing that 95% of the students at those schools are Black/Latino), but it’s illegal to blatantly admit someone based on his/her race.

@Martini: I think Davis is a match for you. Get a 2000+ on the SAT or 30+ on the ACT to have a good chance. Good luck :)

Nothing is illegal unless you get caught
But yeah that’s basically how I got in haha
PS, there are THREE essays to write on. the third essay is the “additional comments” column. It’s there to explain anything you couldn’t place into the prompted section, and they will be read.

WE ALL KNOW COLLEGE WILL ACCEPT HISPANIC/BLACK RACE OVER ASIANS IF THEY HAVE THE SAME QUALIFICATIONS. LAME.

& yeah on the ‘additional comments’ talk about certain grades etc if there was any family/ financial issues.

A lot people don’t write about family struggles/ financial struggles/ death in the family because they feel embarrassed or too personal, but to be honest it helps you and it’s awesome that someone did well in school even with those things going around their life.
