ehh, i dunno...maybe reach?

what do you want to go into? it seems that your extracurriculars are a little bit scattered, and they don't give the adcom a general idea of what you like to do and what you're passionate about. it seems like you're more science/math oriented. are you applying to pratt?

i would say your essays and recs would make or break it. your extracurriculars aren't...amazing.

Is that GPA weighted or unweighted?

Is that GPA weighted or unweighted? I would hope that you have other schools on your list of lower selectivity. It is not too late to add some good schools. Good luck to you.

The owning a business part is pretty attractive. I sort of have imagined Duke as a little SAT I whore, but that may be changing very quickly.

I'd call it a reach.

Yeah I mean I wasnt real into the sports thing, nothing really appealed to me except golf which I took seriously but wasnt very good at anyways so I didnt even make JV junior year being that 30 people tried out for 12 total spots. I just ended up working a lot, and I dont really understand why 4 years of a 2 month sport where you may spend 2-3 hours 5 days a week playing a game counts for so much more than basically 2.5 years of 15 hour work weeks, but thats just me. And that's not counting my business that we ran soph and junior year.

BTW, I applied to Pratt for Biomed or just Engineering in general.

is the GPA weighted or unweighted

It is weighted, but there is certainly no grade inflation at my school because of the 82/92 scale and actually almost all of my APs/honors/math/science classes are As, its the electives, arts, and English classes that I have had issues with getting As.

And not trying to justify my Bs because I know it'd be a lot more impressive if I had only a couple of them, but I also have a terribly lopsided upward trend. I had like a 3.3 both freshman and sophomore year, although I only had like one honors class each year which is weighted by .5, and junior year I had a 3.65 unweighted with 5 APs and this year I have a 3.8 unweighted with 3 APs and 1 honors thusfar.

I definitely recognize my GPA and my ECs as my weakest point, although as I said above my work experience in my mind is worth more than being a member of NHS and donating a total of 6 hours of my time to tutor and go to 15 minute meetings after school once a month, but that is just me.

stunna , I don't think NHS means diddly to any selective school. Don't sweat that. I agree your job should count more than club membership, but the point is that you are low on two criteria Duke uses to admit students without curing cancer, that's going to make it a difficult row to hoe. I wouldn't get my hopes up too high . Good luck.

Well if you refer to ECs as one of them, is does work in a consistant, leadership field for that amount of time make up for it? I always kind of viewed ECs and work experience as being in relatively the same category.

Sorry, but you have close to 0% chance. Duke has 19,000+ applicants this year and they can be extremely selective. There are plenty of great colleges around, and you should be able to get into a good match.
