OK so i recently got my AP World History score back and i got a 3! I can’t believe it! I did so well in the class (A) and i did well on the practice tests as well, I read over the entire Princeton review book a week before and did many practice essays but i still got a 3! I am a rising junior and i took this my sophomore year, and it was my first AP class. Now i know many of you will say that that is fine but i want to major in international relations so i think a 3 in world history won’t seem that great. I just want to know if i still have a chance of getting into schools like Stanford, Princeton, and Yale with this score. My GPA is 4.2 and i am in the top 10% of my class, and i am taking 4 AP class and all honors in junior year so i have a rigorous schedule. my ECs are really good too. So do i still have a chance?
I’m in the same boat as you with chemistry :(. Fortunately for us, AP scores are not considered heavily in admissions. If you have a good score on a comparable subject test, as well as a good grade in the class, odds are they’ll view the score as an anomaly. If it was that important, they’d require an official score report, and as of now, AP scores are self-reported on the common app. Yes, they do play a role, but there are many factors that play a much more important role in admissions- for instance GPA, class rank, SAT, and essays (in no particular order). Admissions to highly selective universities is a holistic process, and no one element is going to make or break your application.
