I am a junior in high school in Fairfax county VA. The schools here are very hard, the grading scale is so unfair, 94-100 receives an A, 90-93 is a B+, 84-89 is a B so on so forth ... I came from CA and came here when I was in 8th grade. I want to know what are my chances of getting into Cal state long beach.. school here is hard, 9th grade i got a 2.0 gpa 10th 2.4 which right now averages to a 2.2 gpa. I messed up my life and chances of getting into college now. This year I am doing so bad! i am taking 2 ap classes, ap us history and ap psych... ap history isn't bad i am good in that, but the only thing i am doing good in. My first semester I probly averaged about a 1.4 this year THATS HORRIBLE!!! my worst.... but i will bring that up... have i ruined my chances completely? I play 2 sports, crew and football. I am going to try my best for the S.A.T. I messed up my freshmen year. If I go to nova im dead. I just didn't understand how the grading was here. I wish I can go back into time. A second chance. Do i even have a chance anymore?

Those seem like normal grading scales.

There will probably be some CSUs you can go to. In years past there have always been openings at East Bay for anyone with a 2.0 or better.

Are you sure your parents want to pay out of state tuition at a school that it will most probably take 5-6 years to graduate from given the CA budget crisis? That's at least 5 X $25K today and the fees are going up quickly.

One, colleges convert grades to their system. Two, with a GPA that low its not like your "unfair system" made that big a difference. For the most part it is over. However you still have time to get into an average college and then step it up there to the point where you could transfer if you want. You are definitely in a hole, but you can get yourself out of it. Just might take a while.

OOS Students at CSU LB or CSU F only have to pay the regular in state tuition fee's.
In state students only have to pay enrollment fee's.

how about a transfer?

Firefornia is incorrect. OOS costs at CSU's total about $28K as opposed to in state costs of about $18K. Both include room and board.

Here are numbers for Chico, OOS:

Go to the website and read up yourself.
Don't let us tell you how much it is going to cost you.
We do not know your living arrangements etc...

Is your GPA out of a 4.0?

i have never seen 90 to 93 as a B+. Your grading system is quite strict, compared to my school's.

5.0 is the highest but you can only get that if you get an A in an ap class
