For a while now, I've been dead set on getting into West Point. However, I don't really know if I can get in. First of all, can I get into West Point if I'm not a citizen? I'm not a U.S. citizen, though I do hold green card status. I have a SSN, which is how I was able to start the application process and apply for SLS. Second, how long does SLS take to process? I've been waiting for about 3 weeks and there hasn't been any confirmation or decline. Third, do I have good enough grades and activities to get into West Point? I have a GPA of 3.75 and I've only taken 1 normal class in high school. My school doesn't do ranking but I'm definitely in the top 10%. The rest have all been Honors and AP classes. I've done swimming for 2 years and gotten a varsity letter. I'm also currently on my second year of track. I've never had any leadership positions though and I had to quit swimming this year to focus on classes. I've also played the violin for many years and participated in many semi-professional youth orchestras sponsored by the professional Detroit Symphony Orchestra. I also plan to do choir all four years, in which I have held a few leadership positions. I got a 205 (4 points away from National Merit) on PSAT and 36 English, 35 Math, 33 Reading, and 26 Science on ACT. I plan to retake Act to improve science. Though I'm not exactly a super athlete, I work out to stay in shape. I also do community service and hold a part time job. So, how are my chances? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks so very much for reading this and trying to help!

You have to be a US Citizen to apply to any of the Military Academies-West Point, Naval Air Force, etc. You should read the FAQ section on the Admissions pages. It will give you more information.

You definitely need leadership positions!!! It’s 30% of the Whole Candidate Score, I believe. Work on getting more Varsity letters - the average for an incoming plebe is 3.
My SAT scores weren’t as great as yours, but I had 7 Varsity letters and numerous, numerous leadership positions. Your academics are strong - work on everything else though.

And yes, check the admissions FAQ to answer your question about citizenship!
