Hello,
Just wanted to ask your opinion, I just got my SAT scores back and scored a 1890 on them (BTW I'm a sophomore). I got a 720 CR, 620 Math, and 550 Writing (9 Essay), btw with these scores do you recommend I retake the sat or take the ACT or even both. I wanted to know if I had a chance of being competitive for the service academies and particularly the summer programs. My top choices in order as USMA,usna, usafa, uscga, and usmma.I had a 4.4 gpa freshmen year and now I have a 4.3 weighted, but unweighted I have gone from 3.75 to 3.66, but I have a harder courseload this year. I also plan to take 2 AP's next year. I play football (First Year varsity), Indoor track(first V year), and outdoor track (first V year). I also played 3 sports my freshmen year as well. I was nominated Junior class vice president, NHS inductee this year, Big brother (mentoring program), leadership club, and I spend 40-50 hours a week coaching youth football. So I just wanted to know if I had a chance to qualify for those summer leadership programs and eventually the academies themselves, or any advice into how I could strengthen my resume. Thanks in advance.

You look competitive and as I understand it your SAT reading and math matter the most, and on those you did well (though it would be great to get your math score up). Also, your overall profile is good. That being said be aware of the following:
- The summer programs are in large part recruiting tools. You might be VERY qualified but not get in because of your geographic reason.
- As a sophomore, you are in great shape to go ahead and take the ACT and see how you fair on that. Compare the two and then focus on one to retake as a junior and maybe even senior. You HAVE to have a plan B for college…so as you look at Civilian schools see if you need the SAT subject test too.
- Apply to all of the summer seminars. You might get all and can choose a couple to go to…you might get none. You might get one and will be glad to grab it and go!
- You are doing a lot…don’t lose site of the fact that you will need strong recommendations from your junior year math and English teachers. Be sure to establish relationships with them. Be sure also to keep your grades up. If they start to suffer, pull back somewhere else.

Good luck to you and congrats on starting early!!
