Do I have a prayer of getting in?

So I’ve been looking at a lot of schools that I personally thing are a bit to a lot out of my score range. So what the heck-why not get ripped apart by random strangers on the internet?

This year stats!!
ACT: 30
W GPA: 4.1 (and i know i need UW, I’ll calculate it…eventually)
Class rank: 12
1 AP class this year

EC’s: active in drama
captain of scholastic bowl team
VP for junior student council
Advertising rep. for newspaper
math honors society
nhs
other less important clubs: (science and outdoor club, STAND, etc)

Next year: along with previous clubs and stuff…
EIC of newspaper (already decided)
hopefully VP for senior student council (elections are soon)
VP for science and outdoor club
captain of scholastic team
AP’s: Calc AB BC, Bio AB BC, Eng,

Schools I’m looking at: (not all of them reaches, but I think most)
Northwestern
Loyola
U of M Twin Cities
UCSD
UC- Berkley
U of Indiana Bloomington
U of I Champaign Urbana
Johns Hopkins

So yup…I don’t need percentages, just if you think it’s a reach, a good fit, or a pipe dream. Oh and if you have suggestions of schools I should check out then that would be also appreciated. I’m looking to go into cog sci

You might get into Twin Cities but no realistic chances at the other schools listed.

You probably can get into twin cities and UCSD, but the other schools are kind of reaches. You could apply ED to hopefully raise your chances. Good luck!

Test scores too low for Northwestern, probably too low for JHU.

You should be able to get into IU-Bloomington. An ACT of 30 puts you in their upper 25%.

I think you could potentially get into all the schools you listed with the exceptions of Nothwestern, JHU, and UC Berkeley. Don’t let people on here dissuade you from applying to the schools you want.

Without knowing unweighted I can’t say for sure, but I think NU’s a big reach without a slightly higher test score and grades (considering I’m assuming you have a few Bs throughout HS with only 1 AP class though idk how many honors classes you’ve taken). I think you could get in for sure U of I and probably Loyola. You have good ECs overall and decent grades (just I think slightly lacking rigor-- but I don’t know exactly what you’ve taken or if your school offers more APs so I could be totally wrong!) so I think with good essays you’ll get in at least one of your reaches. I’d still apply to all of them though as I don’t see you as a flat out rejection for any of these schools-- you just have to put in your max effort to try to stay competitive!

Thanks guys. I’m planning to apply to all of them despite my chances of getting in. I was just curious. Oh and I take all my core classes honors. (we dont have it as an option for theology and things like that) There are only two AP classes offered at my school for juniors  Plus I’m on block schedule so I really can only take four AP’s next year. Do you think that hurts me? I’m also taking CC courses over the summer (does that look good to colleges?)

oh and I calculated my UW gpa…3.8…though I don’t know if I’m supposed to include zero hour classes?

Not taking AP courses will not hurt you if your school doesn’t offer many.
Taking CC courses looks alright to colleges, you should probably be doing some activities related to your major or some volunteer work, but taking classes at a CC is fine.
Retake the ACT and you need to take some SAT II’s, around 2-3 with one of them being Math II.
What’s your major? If it’s something like Biomedical Engineering it will basically be a super reach at Berkeley and JHU, as those programs are notoriously tough, for the 2 UC’s and JHU I think major would impact your acceptance by a sizable amount.

@rdeng2614 I want to major in cognitive science. I don’t plan on taking the SAT.
