Do I have a shot at these Medical Schools

To start with my HS is top 10 in the school, and doesn't publicly use a ranking system. Basically will a very strong upward trend in GPA, a 3.0 from Freshman year to a 4.0 the rest of the years be enough to give me a shot? My major will be medicine, which is why I went heavy on the sciences.

Freshmen Year, my worst year by far:
-Biology: 3
-Honors Geometry: 2.5
-Civics and Econ: 3
-ELA 9: 3
-Gym: 4
-Health: 4
-Spanish: 3
Total GPA: 3

Sophmore, much better
-Chemistry: 4
-Physics: 4
-Spanish: 4
-APUSH: 5
-Honors ALG 2: 4
-ELA 10: 4
(Tested out of AP Psych, got a 5)
Total GPA: 4.0(UW)

Junior, again, mainly focused on sciences, since I'm not exceptional in the maths. Bear in mind that some of these classes are only a single semester.
-Anatomy: 4
-AP Bio: 5
-Genetics: 4
-Honors Pre-Calc: 3.5
-AP Lang: 5
-AP European History: 5
-Instrumentals: 4
-BIG History: 4

Senior, what I'm taking next year.
-AP Chem
-Calc AB, or AP Stats(undecided)
-Sociology: 4
-AP Lit: 5
-Med Career: 4
-AP Gov: 5
-Forensics and Bioethics: 4

ACT Score: 34

EC'S:
-HS XC 3 Years, captain for next year
-HS Track 3 Years, captain for next year
-Debate Team
-H.O.S.A, "All State" for my specialization
-Guitar Concerts, voted best acoustic performance at school :}
-Volunteer, then working at my local major hospital
-Auditorium Technician, my first official job
-Border Patrol Explores, unsure of whether or not to write down, held a leadership position

Potential Advantages: Parents are immigrants? In-state for University of Michigan Medical School and MSU
Had a massive upward trend, kinda turned my life around, And I tend to write killer essays, Debate team was for public speaking training.

First of all, you are a long way from applying to medical school. We cannot tell you anything about acceptance without you first getting a college gpa, MCAT score, and relevant internships or publications. It seems very silly for you not to be asking for a chance to colleges but rather medical schools.

Oh, I understood that you can do pre-med at all of these schools? Could you advise on colleges to apply to in the near future please? I guess that is what I was really asking.

@ooohcollege‌

There is no Pre-Med Major. You can major in Biology, Chemistry, BioEngineering etc… but you just need to take the required courses for Medical school as an undergrad which includes 1 year of Biology/Chemistry/Physics. You need to maintain a good GPA and get a good score on the MCAT to apply to Medical School.

@Gumbymom‌ ok, not sure how else to put it. Can you please rate me for the above schools? or at least suggest good colleges that would help me get in the field and allow me to do well on my MCAT? Pleeease?

A lot depends upon your unweighted and weighted GPA and intended major? ACT looks very competitive and your grades look good. I would say a Match for MSU. I would use the SuperMatch feature on this website and plug in your STATS. This will narrow down some choices in-state and out of state. Also remember, Medical School is very expensive, so your best option is do your undergrad in-state and keep your debt low.

Do not worry about Med. School now. As a pre-med, if you are asking for assessment, you are probably somewhere in a middle. However, when you start college, all of these HS grades and experiences will be irrelevant. Think about it as starting all over, ground zero. Med. School will ONLY look at your college GPA, MCAT score, ECs during college, evaluate your personal skills (at interview), they will not care what you have done before college at all as well as they will not care about many things that you done during college either, outside of what I have mentioned (including the name of your UG, your major/minor,…etc., private Med. School will not care about IS vs. OOS)

@MiamiDAP‌ Thanks a ton! :} So basically I am on the right track? And I should be able to do a major that would set me up for these schools? Like biology, or biochemistry? If so, thank you VERY much.

MonGoosey, in undergrad, you can major in anything you want and then apply to medschool. For example, my daughter majored in Classics and is now in medschool. “Premed” is simply a list of classes that are required to apply for medschool, not a major. there is a premed forum here on CC and it has some stickied threads at the top that will answer all your questions. On my phone and I can’t link but you should be able to find it.

From a premed viewpoint: Pick any major that interests you, as med schools do not care. Try to do well in your major GPA wise (and all other courses as well). Besides your interest in some major, the biggest advantage for choosing a bio/biochem etc major is the premed reqs (Chem/Physics, Bio) tend to be reqs of the major whereas with say a Psych or Art History major, the premed reqs are not a part of earning the degree. Basically you’re killing two birds with one stone with a major like Bio/Biochem (earning degree/satisfying premed reqs)

Although colleges are very interested in your senior courses, as you’ll probably apply to colleges in the fall before your first semester grades are known, you already have the info (GPA/ACT) you need to go to the college websites that you are interested in and see if you are competitive as compared to current or previous incoming class profiles.
As you’re a resident of Michigan, MSU and UMich would be good start and can get you to where you want to go and maybe the least expensive pathway.

I don’t think colleges tend to gear their “premed” courses to preparing students to take MCAT. When it comes time to take MCAT you’ll probably have to buy some MCAT study materials and/or take a MCAT prep course, and then lock yourself into a room and study for MCAT on your own.

@GA2012MOM‌ So I can major in anything, so long as I meet the pre-regs? That is really, really good to know, thanks a ton.
@Jugulator20‌ ok, I wasn’t aware that that was how it worked. I believed that there was a set system for it. :>
