hey guys!
so im currently enrolled at mt. san antonio college. at the moment i have a 2.44 gpa but im taking a hybrid art history class which i have an A in so that should bump me up to at least 2.6. now if everything goes as planned and i do good in all the classes im enrolled in fall i should have like a 2.8 or so. winter session i was planning on re-taking history and speech classes which i failed previously, i know why i messed up and again if all goes planned that should bump me up to a 3.2 gpa or so. but that will be at the end of the winter session. now i've read alot that the uc grade update is usually due the end of feb. if i get a chance to input both my fall and winter grades in do you think ill have a shot? my major is Poli Sci emphasis on international relations i have finished all but 2 pre reqs which i plan on completing during spring semester.
but at this rate i just want to know what my actual chances are.
any thoughts???

well by definition you meet the requirements, but it says on the admissions packet that competition gets more intense each year, and the 2.4 they recommend is just a base line, and that they choose people that well exceed the minimum req’s. but you know what, there are always exceptions! You don’t have a 1.0, so that’s not the case. I’d say try to get straight A’s if possible (study 3 hours a day if you have to, i know it sounds insane but that’s what i do! and i have a life haha.)
and write a kick-arse essay.
good luck!!! :)

I go to mt sac too whats your major, if you dont mind sharing. I can tell you who’s good that i’ve taken. I’ve been at sac for 2.5 years so I know my way around if you would like some advice. good luck, seems like a solid plan!

aww thanks Jeremybeach! yea i know im trying to get really good grades this fall. hopefully all goes well i really wat to get into this school.
samsizzle: my major is poli sci with an emphesis on international realations! haha yea that would be much appreciated. ive only been at the sac for about a year but i went in determined to get out asap and im doing just that. lol

yikes, pol sci involves like the only classes I havent taken haha sorry. If you were in the sciences, I could definitely help you out or any GE classes aswell. As for history and whatever class you need for the major, I have no idea. If you can name some GE classes I can probably tell you some things.

Im so glad to be getting out of there, it’s my last semester. First year I was fully motivated too but after a while it just gets repetitive and everyone you meet transfers out so its pointless to keep trying. Also with the budget cuts, there are so many more students than when I first started, which means higher prices, less classes, less parking etc. I feel bad for everyone who is just starting.

anyway, you can do it if you are determined. Definitely make up those classes and try to take the easy ‘A’ classes and boost that GPA up :)

you’re welcome!
i’m applying there too so who knows, maybe we’ll both be there lol (But that’s so far away X_X)
where else are you applying?

samsizzle: yea i know i parking is insane and there are so many students now. i remember during the first week of class there would be like thirty different people trying to add the class. but anyways as far as g.e’s go im pretty much done with igetc i just need statistics and bio 6 and the lab thats it the rest of the classes are just like randoms so i can get the 60 unit requirement.
Jeremybeach: aw hopefully we both get in! im applying to ucr, ucd, uci, ucsc, csuf, cal poly, sdsu, sfsu, and csulb haha its like 9 schools total and my mom keeps telling me to apply to private schools too.lol

aww no ucsd!! you suck jk

well if you are just going to take random classes to finish your 60 units, I suggest ANTH classed with borella and rachelle, super easy!! sociology classes are pretty easy too

haha thats where i wanted to go originally, but than i went and visited the campus and well i HATED it. so no more. might go there for graduate school tho but right now im just focusing on transferring.

yeah ucsb jumped ranks above uci, i wouldnt mind going there. I applied for winter and the only schools accepting were ucsd, ucr, ucsc, and ucm so its no brainer why I chose it. I cant afford to waste 2 semesters to apply to other uc’s so im not tripping what didnt you like about sd? the location is amazing and if you know the right people its pretty social too.

anyway back to topic! lol

no yeah ucsd is a GOOD school but i dont know i just didnt feel like it was for me. of course if i end up waiting and transferring winter then ill go to ucsd no doubt. but right now i really really want to go to ucsb.

sounds like a plan.

what are you taking at sac right now?

i am taking math 71, geog 1, poli 2, eng 1C, and AHIS 1. what about you?

im taking bio 2 and chem 51. Just taking some science classes since i’m already done with IGETC.

I havent taken any of your classes except eng 1c, I used to tutor english at sac part time haha if you have any questions about that class I could probably help.

this semester is flying by! Halloween is coming up, then thanksgiving, then finals! cant wait

dang chem 51,that sounds…fun? haha thanks! im actually pretty good at english so im not really worried. but yea i know! im so excited only 8 more weeks left!!

chem 51 pales in comparison to bio 2, which has the rep for being the hardest class sac has to offer next to calc 2. I hate hate hate that class, I am struggling to get a low B in that class lol its just memorizing 100’s and 100’s of structure of plants and animals…

I just got my test back so i’m kind of venting anywayyyy winter schedule is out, are you gonna take it? how many more units do you need?

hahs still a b in one of the toughest classes on campus is quite impressive. give yourself some credit :). omg is it really? im going first thing tomorrow to pick one up. yes i am im taking 2 courses at msac and than perhaps another at either rio or citrus. so basically 10 units over winter. than i jsut need 18 more for spring and im done!!

wow that sounds hectic! when did you start sac? You can petition to take more than 7-8 units in winter, why don’t you do that instead of commuting to another college? Make sure you choose easy professors, once you get a 3.0 you are straight. It all sounds good in writing, but not organizing yourself is a recipe for disaster ehh I hope you do well!

haha its not too bad. i like being pressured, its when i get stuff done you know? yeah i was thinking about that but im not sure if i will get it approved since there are so few classes. ill see but im determined to get this stuff done. ive only been at mt sac for a year this is my second.

good stuff, you beat me haha this is barely over 2 years for me. It doesnt matter if the classes are cut or whatever.

if you meet this, they have to approve you (I’ve done it before):

Student Unit Limits
Without petitioning, students may enroll in up to 18 units each
semester and up to seven units each summer and winter session.
Students who have completed a minimum of 15 college units in a given
semester with a grade point average of at least 3.0 and have a
minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 may petition
for permission to enroll in units above the maximum.
Students may be required to see a counselor as part of the
petition process. Petitions are available in the Counseling Office, location
on the upper level of the Student Services Center.

So if you have had a semeser with atleast 15 units and 3.0 you can, if not then yeah just go to another college.

Do you commute locally? I bet we have mutual friends if you do haha I went to ayala if you know where that is, but I know kids from every high school around. Anyway you seem pretty determined, do what you got to do! Don’t get late like me (missed fall applications = bye bye ucla, hello ucsd for winter)
