Do I have a shot at UC Santa Cruz?

I am going to be applying to schools in the fall, and UCSC is my dream school. I want to major in environmental studies. I My EC’s point to an interest in the environment/agriculture, and I am in an environment-focused magnet school within my high school.

My UW GPA is 3.3, and my UC GPA is 3.5. I show an upward trend from Freshman/sophmore year to junior year.

I took the SAT and got a 1500, but I’m taking it again and studying a lot for it. I’m shooting for at least a 1700.

Even though I don’t have the greatest GPA, is UCSC environmental studies still possible for me because of my environment centered extracurriculars?

Your GPA is below the 3.82 average for last year and SAT score is currently below the average of 1782.

If you can get your SAT up to above 1800, you would have a better chance.
29% of enrolled students were in the your GPA range so it is possible.

UCSC at this point would be a High Match/Low Reach.

I agree with Gumbymom, that it would be a low reach/high match. However, your major is not competitive so you have a better chance of getting in than an impacted major.

I encourage you to apply, particularly if you can boost your SAT significantly. With your current stats, Long Beach, Fullerton and Chico are better matches. A couple hundred SAT points could open the door to UCR and SDSU. You’ll need even more for UCSC.

Thanks for everyone’s replies. I got my SAT score up to 1840, and I got into UCSC!
