The fact that you’ve never taken even a fundamentals of calculus class is going to be a strike against you (Chicago really looks for this regardless of your intended major), and you’re also taking the easy way out of physics (anatomy detracts form electricity/magnetism, and obviously calculus-based mechanics can’t be taught). If your school doesn’t have these options I think they’ll understand, but considering it has APs in other subjects, that seems unlikely. A 4.0 is nice, but it doesn’t appear you’ve challenged yourself a great deal (for instance, why didn’t you take the AP in spanish?), and the discrepancy between those grades and your testing indicate that your school simply isn’t rigorous, detracting from your achievement and also inciting some worry about a transition to a place without grade inflation (but with a calculus sequence requirement). I’d be curious to know the ACT score breakdown, I guess, as well as if you’ve exhibited any special interest in Russian.

U Chicago has classes for people who have never taken pre-calculus (though Algebra 3 could be the equivalent in your school), and you can fulfill the Math requirement with a class on statistics, so to say that taking Calc itself is practically a requisite would be quite a misconception…Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m guessing that Anat and Phys refers to Anatomy and Physiology? I took that class as my science on senior year and graduated without ever having taken any Honors or AP science classes. I don’t know what classes your school does or does not offer at the AP level, but just because they exist doesn’t mean you have to take all of them. You’ve taken AP and Honors classes in subjects that interested you and did well in them, that’s better than suffering having to do the work in AP classes that you hold no interest for. ACT score is not amazing, have you considered taking the SAT instead? Work hard on those essays, and good luck with the whole process.

no- my school does NOT have ap spanish … and algebra 3 is essentially pre calc with some trig for people that do not want to be cutting themselves over their math class. i have no interest in math.
i do however love the subjects i took ap and honors in… and if i suffer for having integrity and only pursuing rigorous studies in the fields that i enjoy then at least i was honest.
if chicago doesnt want me because i got a 25 on math - then maybe theyll want me because i got a 36 on reading and a 35 on english… idk im taking the lit$&ushistory subject tests saturday so i guess its a matter of luck/fate at this point

Sorry, “Anatomy and Physics” truly does make about zero sense as a class. The issue wasn’t wether there would be offerings for a non-calculus student at the university, but if one could get in. They’ve said on their admissions tumblr that they’d strongly suggest calculus, and want four years of rigorous full-credit math which posed a challenge to the applicant (I don’t really think stats counts…). I’d also suggest that UChicago is not the school for someone who wants to cut based on based on a bit of a challenge (I’m sure this is an attitude which would cause them to reject you, and they may infer a much less extreme version from your avoidance of hard classes in both disciplines) and won’t go outside of their comfort zone. Not taking “real” math solely based on not liking it is a bit immature, and at best just not something you should be sounding so completely self-righteous about. Your glib comment regarding mental health behaviors is also extremely inappropriate and disrespectful, for reasons I SERIOUSLY hope analytical thinking can help you come by.

I asked why you didn’t take the AP test, not an AP class… so many students self-study these days, and in this case, if your class truly was advanced it would have been no problem for you to register at another school and get a 5. I’m not sure quite why your post was so hostile; when people chance you they’re not just going to say you’ll get in. Chicago is extremely competitive and looking at a below 10% acceptance rate next year; I just don’t think proving the same skill set three times (you already showed you’re good at english and history using the AP and ACT, you should study up on math instead of being redundant with more SAT IIs in the same field) and hanging your hat an interest/strength where you’ve never pursued a class at a college, done an internship, or written something publication quality is the best admissions strategy.
