I looked up my ID from the NYU Bookstore, and there were 28 books - all for one semester?

I was wondering the same thing. For my Environmental Sci class I only have 1 textbook, but for Cultural Foundations and Social Foundations, I have like a dozen books each. They're not textbooks though, most are classic works for literature. Do we need all of them 1st semester?

Check if they're optional or required.

Yeah, they all say required, but maybe its possible to stagger some of these purchases since I doubt all of them will be used at once

I'm definitely going to buy the textbooks, but I don't think there's anything wrong with borrowing some of the literary books from the library. Like for my Social Foundations class, there's at least 12 books, but it's not like we're going to spend all semester reading the Iliad, so I'll use the library.

Honestly, if you know the general idea of most of the books, you don't really need to read the entire thing (for MAP classes). I know it's bad advice and only 'bad' students do that, but ... ... ... you know. I get A's. And thats what I do.

If you want to get them from the library make sure you get them in advance because everyone else from your class might have the same idea and it takes 2 weeks to recall the book from someone who has it. Plus someone can recall it from you at any time.

Thanks for the tips...sounds like I'll have a lot of reading to do. I've read some of the books in high school though, but it's good to know I don't need to read them cover to cover.
Since I'm commuting, I can borrow books from my hometown library as well. I hope it has most of them.

wait...how did you guys get your list of textbooks and books already? aren't the classes that we registered subject to change since we meet with a financial advisor and set everything in stone? is that just in tisch?? haha sorry I'm reallly confused.

put your NYU id number in

Yeah, but in order to get the list, you have to register for classes first, and some students have their orientation next week, and thus don't even have their classes picked out yet.

You can try and take these out from the library, but it will be difficult because a large number of GSP students read the same or very similar books as to whats on your list.

I know the amount of books needed for GSP is kind of ridiculous, but theres really nothing you can do about it. Enjoy having 20+ books while all your non-GSP friends have like 6 or 7.

On a more serious note, you probably wont have to read all of every book. In some books you'll just read certain chapters or parts of the book to get the flavor.
