i want to drop a class before getting notation on my transcript (week four). However, if I drop the class, i will only have 9 units left. Do I have to pay financial aids back if i drop it? Is there any way for me to drop the class without paying back? Thanks.

Generally speaking, you are ok if you are enrolled at least half time, meaning 6 units, except if you are receiving Federal Pell Grant, Smart grant , and Cal grant B which require an enrollment of 12 units. I would check with FAO if I were you.

you will get billed for the above mentioned grants if you drop below 12 units. If you’re thinking that you can drop a class after FAO checks for your units be aware that they will bill you later on in the quarter…My friend had to ask his parents to pay the ~$500 he got billed around 7th week due to dropping below 12 units

thanks. Then if I want to drop the class, do I have to report it to the financial aid office? Or what do I need to do?

doesn’t matter if you tell them or not. My guess is that if you go talk to them, they’ll just tell you how much you have to pay back. If you don’t talk to them, then just check your BAR statement on URSA regularly to see when and how much they charged you

you could also have requested for a fee waiver (which I did for this quarter since I only need 3 classes to graduate) but it’s too late now and I don’t know if the policies are the same in L&S and HSSEAS.
