Do I need a Math subject test?

Hey there! 4 of the 6 colleges I plan on applying to recommend 2 SAT Subject tests, so I have decided to go ahead and take them. I want to take Literature and Biology (Ecological), but I was concerned about whether or not I should take Math Level 1 instead of Biology. Bio and Literature (English) are definitely my strongest subjects, but Math is on the weaker side. I just thought since Math is usually recommended if I should take it.

The schools are Fordham, University of Florida, George Washington and Syracuse.

Anything helps, thanks!

Just because it’s recommended doesn’t necessary mean it will hinder you if you don’t take it, and may not benefit you long term in your education. Do you think your major is math intensive?

On the other hand, getting a 800 in Math Level II can give you a good advantage in terms of college admissions compared to other applicants

Thank you for your response! And since I have decided to apply to Boston University, I have to take two subject tests, because BU requires them. And no, my major will not be math intensive, it will most likely be English or Communications.

If you don’t think you will get a high score on Math II, then don’t risk taking it and getting a bad grade. Not having the test is better than having the test but with a low grade.

Take what you’re strongest in. Bio and Lit are fine because they’re both different subject areas. Make sure that the colleges you’re interested in don’t specifically require the Math II (some colleges do).

If you’re confident, an 800 in Math II (don’t bother taking Math 1; it’s too easy) will definitely be a bonus for you. Colleges who don’t do score choice will end up seeing it if you send all of your scores.

Thanks guys! I’m going to steer clear of Math :)
