Do I need to have major prereqs completed before transferring as a certain major?

If I wanted to transfer to another college and write on my application as a certain major, do I need to have to those major prereqs completed already? What if I had decided what I want to do but have not taken those pre-reqs yet?

You may be accepted into the college/university if you have a decent GPA.

However, if you don’t have all those prerequisites, your chance of being accepted into the program is not good.

Requirements for prerequisites vary with the school. Some have very specific ones, others none at all. And often these prerequisites are for gen ed courses, not a major as most major requirements are fulfilled in the last two years.

This also varies with major, for things like engineering, major requirements can start the first year.

It varies, right now I’m trying to transfer to UCSB for example and they are pretty loose about major pre-reqs as stated on Assist.org but schools like UCB are very strict about it since they are more competitive.
