Do I need to sit for the TOEFL? Cause I cant :(

"Students for whom English is not the primary language, or not the language of instruction in their secondary school, should take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) in addition to the options listed above. The minimum required TOEFL score is 250 on the computer-based test or 100 on the Internet-based test. We also accept the IELTS, with a minimum of 7 required."

I am from an English medium school, but my first language is not English(i am south asian). I am not sure if I qualify for exemption. FYI I have 700+ in CR.

Do I need to sit for the TOEFL? Or should I leave Tufts..?..:(

Why can’t you take the TOEFL? That would be the real question.

Are your SAT scores competitive for Tufts?

Umm, all toefl seats have been taken in my country for december. The next available seat is in jan. And not many colleges take jan Toefl scores, so I might be sitting for the toefl, which is a super expensive test, only for tufts, which may sound nice but is just stupid, financially at least.

isnt a 730 in cr and a 760 in writing competitive enough?

They are very competitive, but internationals need toefl to show how much they know in English. I don’t think it makes sense when the scores are that high.

Some colleges will waive TOEFL for you if you get +700 (( and for some colleges it’s +600)) in CR of the SAT.
Contact the admissions and ask them if they will waive TOEFL for you, make sure to include both your SAT CR and W scores.

P.S : You’re right , TOEFL IS really expensive, I just don’t understand what they do with all this money. SAT cost is reasonable, But TOEFL cost is like 4 times the cost of SAT.

I mailed them, and a few other colleges too. Waiting for the reply.

If you attend an English medium school - which you do - you don’t need to submit the TOEFL. You still could, and for some students it would be recommended, but you are ok.

The students who still probably ought to take the TOEFL are ones who feel their SAT scores do not properly reflect their English language abilities. But, with a 700+, I suspect you feel pretty OK with the score.

^Thanks a lot DanAdmiss@Tufts.

I was beginning to wonder if I would have to kick Tufts out of my lift. This is amazing news. :D
