Do I stand a chance at getting an out of state scholarship?

Sorry that I'm not on the financial aid board, first off, but it seemed like this would be the more logical place since it is a Michigan-based question.

IB Diploma candidate
GPA-4.0 UW/4.85 W
Class Rank-2/422
ACT-35 composite (35 E/36 M/35 R/ 32 S)
SAT-2110 composite (680 CR/700 M/730 W)
SAT II-French with Listening-690; Math Level 2-710
Invited to honors program

I'm a Virginia resident, and the cost of attendance is way too high for me to even think of going without a pretty good scholarship. I can list other things such as senior year schedule, ECs, and awards if necessary, but I heard a rumor that Michigan's financial aid is VERY numbers-oriented. Thanks in advance for any input!

There’s a chance but there’s never a guarantee. Just wait it out and see.

Your SAT results are not good enough, but your transcripts and ACT results are obviously stellar. I hope you submitted the latter and not the former.

If you applied EA, I think you have a reasonable chance of getting a scholarship. If you applied RD, your chances at a scholarship are next to nil.

Being you were invited to Honors, looks like you were accepted EA. Get your FAFSA in soon. Yes, you have a decent chance. Good luck.

I did apply Early Action and did send my ACT score. Thank you all for everything that you have to say.

I don’t agree on your statement regarding SAT. Compared to OP, D was a similar candidate. She had identical SAT scores (2110), OOS, not a minority, slightly lower class rank (around 5 out of 400) and GPA, and more ECs including varsity team captain. She is currently in LSA Honors and she received the Michigan Traditions scholarship $10K/year for 4 years. We don’t know why she was awarded the scholarship, although Michigan recruits heavily at her high school (it has some sort of partnership with her high school which I never really understood), and I don’t believe the students ranked ahead of her applied to Michigan, so perhaps Michigan wanted to encourage her to accept (it worked).

To the OP, while your stats are similar to my D’s, you should know that she was awarded the scholarship shortly after she was accepted EA. Good luck.

Yeah, I hope you didn’t submit your SAT score, which is good, but not mind-boggling good like your ACT score. Whether you get a scholarship or not will depend on your essays.

Or you know you could just go to UVA, one of the top public schools in the land for a much cheaper price…;)

Haha, I did also apply early to UVA. I hear back from them Friday evening. That’s my top choice, followed by Michigan. That’s why I was wondering if going to Michigan would be realistic (financially).
