Do I still have a chance at UCLA / UCSB

Hello everyone,
So I’m at a CCC, and currently am on a english major now. I am thinking of minoring in bio or psychology instead. However, in the first semester of CCC I failed 2 courses. When i make that up or do an academic renewal, my gpa would most likely end with a 3.8 before transferring. Do I still stand a chance for UCLA or any other UCs such as UCI and UCSB? Any advice or is it just impossible now?
thank you for your answers.

Yes you do. They will ask for an explanation for the grades (not ready, hardship, other issue) but as long as you repeat or AR you’ll be in the running. I would not mention the bio minor. Handle that later (if it’s even offered as a minor). Keep in mind there is a time frame needed to get AR. Considering that you just took the courses, it may be better to repeat, unless it’s totally outside your major.

ah, thank you for answering. Well, those two courses were part of the biology major requirements. But I felt like English major was a better fit for me. However I just wanted to have a bio minor in the future in case I do better (on retake). But do you recommend to doing science courses before declaring the bio minor there. Or just stick to the English major (do the Academic Renewal for those sciences.) to have a higher chance of getting into by my English major?
and then after I get accepted theoretically, then deal with the bio minor?

First, you need to see if bio minor is even offered. Then, see what the minor req are and yes it would be better to do them at CCC, if possible. But don’t take them at the expense of your GPA. There’s no need to mention minor in application since it has no relevance to English. Just opening up a potential can of worms since bio courses are tough at the UCs.
